I'm a longtime supporter and fan of the ladyVols

What is the 'take' on this teams chemistry....leadership....commitment compared to previous teams....

one particuliar thing I've noticed is that the 'team' often appears to be reluctant to give the ball to Simmons when she's not creating her own shot.....this is more apparent when she's not having a good shooting night but more and more often I see her calling for the ball and not getting it, not immediately at least....how is she perceived by her peers?

I think the real question is...how are you perceived by your peers?? So I'll answer it instead.

Obviously, you are a bandwagon fan who considers jumping off in rough times. Your commitment to the Vols is pitiful. You really don't deserve a Vol fan card any longer, but I'm not the Vol fan card repo man so I can't confiscate it.

We may be on a rocky road right now, but that's when we need to hang on for dear life for the sake of our beloved Vols. I see a smoother, more prosperous road just ahead and I'm not jumping off. We as Vol fans should maintain our fanhood even in times of distress and grief. Hold on tight. Joy cometh in the morning.

Posts such as that make me think of Shaw's line 'I learned a long time ago to not to wrestle with a pig....you get dirty...and besides the pig enjoys it'

But for the sake of clarity I'll amend my post to note that my lack of involvement in UT's programs have nothing to do with them rather its about some things in my personal life...other priorities....again I'll resist the urge to respond further...

I'm a longtime supporter and fan of the ladyVols but admittedly less so in recent years...this is true of all UT programs not just the womens programs...

Not a true VFL, IMO. It's ok, even natural, to be discouraged with the so-called Big 3 UT programs right now. But it's not ok to be "less so" of a suppporter just because those programs have not been up to fans' expectations. You're either a VFL or you're not. There is no gray area.

Everybody loves Pat, but folks are finding it difficult to warm up to Holly.

I think early in the season, Simmons hurried a lot, most, of her shots and she was having lot of problems hitting a high % of her shots. I think some of that was they were concentrating on getting the ball inside and the shot clock would run down requiring someone to take the hurried shot from outside. Simmons, at that time, was the logical choice. As the season progressed, the inside game improved and other players began to hit from outside. The result was better team play, more open shots inside and outside and a higher % of shots made. The offense is playing much better and the defense is less consistent than the offense. If the defense makes the effort, I believe the team can go a long way in the NCSSs.

didn't see how the op was jumping ship, more questioning team chemistry. and try to take my card and we shall throwdown....

I think M Simmons thing is a matter of trust, if she aint hitting she isn't going to quit throwing it up. she seems rushed sometimes.
like how Carter has stepped up, future is bright, Go Vols!

:good!: Izzy is the Key. Bashaara is coming on and Mercedes needs to get tougher. Simmons just needs to wait for a good shot and be patient. She appears to be doing better at that. Andraya Carter has really stepped it up and is playing well. Ariel Massengale needs to get back on the court as well but I'm glad the team is doing well without her, which has to be helping them in the depth chart and getting them more tournament ready.

My high school basketball coach, Joe Daves, who won a state championship in 1989 taught us that good teams play to their strengths and avoid weaknesses. For example, if you have a post player who is not a good ball handler or dribbler and he pops out above the free throw line, he often won't get the ball from a good team, because his teammates know he can't do anything out there.

Good teams recognize who has the hot hand and try to get them the ball and a shot. There's all kinds of situations like that where a conscious choice is made to play to a strength or avoid a weakness.

So, in a nutshell, some of that may be going on and should be going on based on the overall history of players AND the dynamics of the specific game being played.

As for team chemistry, there's really no way to build it other than play and practice a lot together. Some players are more apt to have more chemistry than other players. Some players are also better at utilizing chemistry than others, too.

I could understand the reluctance early in the season. You pass Simmons the ball and she would fire one up. That was then and now is now. The leadership that Carter has provided has changed a lot of players basketball IQ and the way they play the game. Simmons has not taken many bad shots in the last six or seven games. All her shots have been within the concept of the offense. The next step is to get Burdick more confidence she has a great shot and has gotten better but still is reluctant to take shots sometimes making a bad pass instead when a shot would have been better.
Keep Izzy out of foul trouble and get Graves more involved in the offense would be desirable. All five players can score and the one with the best shot should take it. I see a lot more of that now than I did early in the season.

Obviously, you are a person who is not a real Vol fan. You are not jumping off the bandwagon because you see good times ahead and joy cometh. The implication is you would drop the Vols if they continued on a downward trend perhaps permanently. You may think you speak for everyone, but I'm with Ducreux.

Towards the end of the Vandy game, one that Simmons had taken good shots - she put up a quick three and missed. The TV commentators noted that and at the next dead ball she came out.

However, if you review her shooting percentage and shot selection post NotreDame it has been quite good. Her in traffic short jumpers are shots that were not part of her arsenal earlier.
