Tebow's new throwing motion: video

Needs a lot of work. He's still bringing it down below the shoulder. I guess that's better than hip level. It's still a very slow, long release and he looks uncomfortable. They should have worked on this while he was at Florida.

It looks like it is taking a conscious effort right now, but that doesn't mean much. I am sure he can adjust his game. I don't think he is going to dominate in the NFL, but he'll make some money and get his shot.

Coach up mechanics in your QB? No way!

After watching it a couple of more times I notice the wind up is shorter than it was and his elbow is a lot higher upon release. Now get rid of that wind up and get that elbow above the shoulder. It's getting better. I actually hope he improves and does well.

Yeah, it definitely looks like he's putting a lot of thought into what he is doing, which is not good. I hope the guy does well though. I respect him as a player and a person and would hate to see his career end now as talented as he his simply because they didn't do a better job of coaching him at UF.

I think sometimes we assume too much in terms of what these guys do in college automatically translating into how they will do it at the NFL. Is it better if his mechanics are already sound? Sure. Is it easy to transform the motion ? No.

But its not impossible. And if there's talent there, while he might not go as high as he would if it were already more perfected, it would be a mistake to conclude that he'll never upgrade the mechanics once he's there.

I think his motion is much improved... I would have liked to of seen the result of those throws and how much velocity he has on the ball.

Two question:

Will his new form breakdown under pressure in big game situations?

Why did they not slowly work on this while he was at UF?

They did quite a bit. He changed his throwing motion from 2007 to 2008 because it was hurting his shoulder. I believe when Loeffler arrived he adjusted it again.
Yes, they improved the wind up from traveling to his thigh pad to traveling to his waist. :p

George had a cannon and quick release. Any brain and restraint and he was a prototype.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Perhaps OE is trying to make another correlation, but George had as much physical talent as most NFL QB's if not more.

Better job coaching him to do what? Win more regular season games and National championships? What, on earth, are you talking about? He's one of the best players in college football EVER, at his position, and you're suggesting that the coaching staff should have screwed with his mechanics? That's not the way it works at the college level, my friend. Not now; not ever. I predict and hope he will have a very productive NFL career.

It's still astonishing that:

1) Urban Meyer took the #1 QB recruit in the whole country;
2) he had him for four full years;
3) the recruit developed a reputation as one of the best players in college history;
4) and yet the player is still desperately trying to rebuild his mechanics from the ground up a month before the draft.

Hard to imagine why any top QB recruit would play for Meyer. "We don't care about your future, as long as we're winning now. Enjoy beautiful Gainesville!"

Uhh...their staff messed with his mechanics two different years.

The greatest ever stuff is absurd. He win one title as a starter and one Heisman. When the talent around him departed, he laid an egg. He was a great college player, but he wasn't any greater than VY in the end.

GMAFB. Everything about Tebow depended on his ability to pick up third and short at a ridiculously high percentage by running the ball. That's where his entire value was. As a passer, he was never better than average. His coaches should have been working on that his entire career. The fact that he's having to do this dog and pony show for the scouts right now with his "completely rebuilt mechanics!" means that his Florida coaches failed him.

Yup, this one. When they weren't stacked at all positions it showed in the form of t-bones shoulders and him plowing desperately for needed yardage last year. I am honestly amazed he didn't get hurt more. He should be a tight end because running players over was as much his gift as tossing ugly passes. NFL size may not allow that though. This is what I'd be doing if I was tebow though :banghead2: because he didn't work on his mechanics more before now.

Phillip Rivers' mechanics has not hurt his game in the pros.

That motion seems way to forced right now. He still has a lot of work to do. You can kinda tell when he first drops back to throw he has to put a lot of effort into not dropping it down to his hip.
