Imagine that...you don't teach kids about safe sex and more of them get pregnant. Mississippi also leads the nation in STDs.

People need to understand there is a difference between teaching abstinence and practicing abstinence. When you practice abstinence, it works. When you teach abstinence, it does NOT work.

Lots of bible thumpers seem to not understand the difference.

Retarded attempt at correlation. There are no states teaching abstinence only. The pregnancy issues are about sorry ass parenting and single parent households that don't give two craps about education.

Good points, but do you think teaching abstinence works? I live in Utah....the most morally conservative state in the Union. Family structure is generally in tact here, and parents do give a crap about education. Parents rigidly teach abstinence only. They even strictly teach abstinence from masturbation. If abstinence worked, I'd expect UT to be #50, but they were #36.

In Tennessee, the best form of birth control for teen girls is making sure their mothers are at home.

OP, the two are not correlated.

Teen pregnancies are due mainly to the way a child is raised at home. Not what they are taught in school.

The wildest girl I ever went out with as a teen was a Preachers Daughter. :)

If you have ever been lucky enough to date a Pentecostal woman you know what I'm talking about.

At the Christian college that I attended, it was a standing joke about the freshman pastor's daughters......most lived up to the reputation.

If I had any idea what Pentecostals believed, I would understand this.

it is not so much theology, it is the "sheltered" life the young women have before going off to college and realizing that Daddy is not there and they have some freedom to "explore"

Happens to girls with overly strict parents from all backgrounds. They are the ones who go crazy in college.

I have told my 16 year old daughter that she has my 100% trust until she does something to break that trust, and when that trust is broken it will be extremely difficult to get back..........it is working, as far as I know, and she has chosen good friends, that helps the most

Totally agree with you about trust. Too many people don't understand trust. It is big with me.

Also agree with the influence of friends.

Not to try to tell you how to raise your kids, but when I have kids of my own, I will encourage them to party a little bit in high school (as long as their grades are good). Grades come before anything else. I think it is critical for college bound kids to be exposed to partying in high school where there is a controlled environment. It forces them to learn to have fun responsibly. It also helps them to learn to keep their life in balance. Too many kids, who are not exposed to anything, loose their minds in college and throw away their futures because they were never taught how to manage it properly and responsibly.

Anyways, that's my advice :hi:

She has tons of exposure to the "party crowd" and always comes home and says she can not believe how studip most of them are......she is a straight A student and wants to be a Pediatrician......she scored a 2300 on her PSAT and is already getting letters from all the Ivys and top schools......she is even willing to give up her first love of lacrosse to get in the medical program that she wants (she could play D1 lax at smaller schools that do not have good pre-med programs).......she has a great head on her shoulders no thanks to her dad
