I remember about year ago arguing with some folks around here that Jalen Tabor would not be the first CB taken or a high first round pick because he was slow. I cited his 4.6 as a high school junior at the Opening but I was told I was stupid and didn't know what I was talking about. Just wanted to put this out there since so many on here love to bring up the RARE times I am wrong on something.
With that said, I stick behind my original projection for Tabor. I still like him in the late first round. I thought he was OVERRATED last summer when all the early 2017 Mock Drafts had him going in the top 5-10 overall. Now I'm hearing he might drop to the late 2nd or even the 3rd round based on the slow 40s. Now I think he's being UNDERRATED big time. Teez Tabor is still an elite CB prospect. He's still in my top 5. And I think he'll still be a really good NFL player.
D4H's Top 5 CBs in the 2017 NFL Draft
1. Cam Sutton (Tennessee)
2. Ahkello Witherspoon (Colorado)
3. Marlon Humphrey (Alabama)
4. Teez Tabor (Florida)
5. Jourdan Lewis (Michigan)
Homer of course as you have Cam Sutton number 1. he will be lucky to go number 5 in the draft of al CB's.
D4H if he is truly in the 4.6 to 4.7 range on his 40 he will not be a successful corner in the NFL. That lack of athleticism can be masked in college but not in the NFL.
Josh Norman ran 4.66 at the combine and is arguably the best corner in the NFL right now. Several other elite corners in the league ran 4.5 at the combine (see Richard Sherman, Joe Haden, AJ Bouye, and Brent Grimes). 40 speed isn't everything. Insticts, technique, film study, and intelligence also play a huge part in the success at the next level.
Tabor may lack elite athleticism for the CB position but he does have elite insticts and technique. In the right system I believe he can be a pro bowl corner. For example he would be perfect fit playing in Seattle opposite Richard Sherman. They run a scheme based on press man and cover 3 zone coverage. That's a perfect fit for Tabor because he's got long arms and good agility that are perfect for press technique and he's got tremendous insticts to read routes that make him great in zone coverage.
Tabor would be a star in Seattle.
