Very intelligent, 4.0 GPA and majoring in aeronautical engineering.

Very athletic with good arm strength.

Needs development. Coaches are very excited about him.

Quite impressive! A QB who can do math and physics..probably can get coached up well.

What makes him special for UT?

He is MORE INTELLIGENT THAN PEYTON,BY FAAAAAR!!!! Whether he has better skills.........????? I have no clue. I know he should be able to learn a playbook and appropriate audibles in a matter of weeks. If this kid can play.....we will have another Josh Football. I am personally very excited. The kid has my first name. He likes one of my interests, aeronautical engineering. And he is here for at least FOUR years! I say start him vs AP! GO VOLS! WELCOME TO ROCKY TOP CLASS OF 17!

well, I wouldn't say a sr in hs has more football intelligence than Peyton. Peyton is known as one of the smartest football players of all time. Let's hope Dobbs ability to understand engineering bleeds over into quick and smart decisions on the field.

note: I said INTELLIGENCE! Not FOOTBALL INTELLIGENCE! of course Peyton is more experienced and football savvy, but I bet ya Dobbs IQ is at least 20 pts higher!

Hyams was just on The Zone singing his praises. He said he is very smart. Has a good frame, good arm, and is capable of running. Hmmm, Tony Robinson maybe? FWIW, Hyams also said he feels like UT ranked in the top of the SEC in QB recruiting this year.

2 elite 11 qb's should rank high, but of course, CBJ and staff got nothing done according to many, so don't count the qb's.

Oh no. That is bad for our new QBs.

The only disappointments to me were Bell and RBs. I think we got a great class to fill immediate needs. We definitely will have an epic qb battle. Go Josh!

Dobbs is our highest rated recruit on 247 and flipped on NSD. CBJ can't close.

Dobbs wasn't coming here, even for a visit. They spent 3 hours in their home just to secure a visit. CBJ went to the engineering dept and they did a great presentation to Dobbs and his family when they came to campus. The rest is history.
I'm sure somewhere in that process, someone on here can complain about something.

rb's yes. But we got a good one. Dude is fast and strong. Grade concerns kept people away.
As far as bell, screw him. He wanted the easy road. We got a few kids that weren't scared and are ready to play ball. JRM is a leader. Bell is a follower.

What I love about Dobbs is his smarts. He's a field general, that has a great read on the defense. I see him spending countless hours in the film room to better his game even more. Physically, he needs to add some weight to his frame. But he has nice height at 6'4 that should serve him well seeing over the line. He has a strong arm, and makes plays with his feet. Although he's more of a pocket passer, he has speed, and the ability to escape pressure and extend plays to find an open receiver down field. That is what makes him special, and an all around perfect fit for this offense. I think Dobbs has a legitimate shot to win the starting job this year. Butch and Bajakian personally recruited this kid, and are very high on him. That leads me to believe that he'll have some momentum going into the QB battle. We're very well set at QB for years to come.

Didn't someone say he had an injury his senior year that kept his ranking lower than it should have been?

There was an article on ESPN insider talking about how Jones drew a crazy complex play and immediatly erased it, then Dobbs walked up to the board and redrew it with no problem...this kid is going to be special I can feel it.

I watched him get interviewed on CSS's signing day special and he sounds exactly like Andrew Luck...I think he is the QB that leads us back to the top someday.

That's not a major at UTK. It's a concentration within Aerospace Engineering.

I watched the Elite 11 on ESPN - Dilfer loves Dobbs as well as Ferguson. Dobbs finished 7th at the camp. Just think of a taller, smarter, yet leaner Russell Wilson. Excellent athelete (could be MLB drafted) uses legs to find the open reciever but still timed at 4.7 / 40yd - he's going to be very special.

When listening to Swain and Riggs talking about nuances of recruiting with Fulmer... it's the little things like this that put you ahead in the game.
