1. If there is anyone you can't blame for the debacle last night, don't blame Chism. I've criticized his three-point shooting before, but I'll take that look. That's an open three he has hit before. He just missed.

2. I don't mind not calling a timeout, but you have to draw up a better play. I like going to Chism, but he had 210-pound Robbie Hummel on him. Feed the ball down low to him, and let him score, get fouled, or pass it out of a double team for a good look.

3. Hate to see that I was right about Scotty Hopson. He looked scared last night. He doesn't have that IT factor, and he can't take over in big games.

4. What's up with Tyler Smith? I know he isn't the best three-point shooter in the world, but he has passed up every single open three. And he said he improved it. Weird.

5. My apologies to Steven Pearl...Renaldo Wooldridge is the most worthless player in America. How the hell was that guy a 4* player continues to boggle my mind.

6. Melvin Goins gets after it defensively. His offensive skills leave much to be desired, but he can play excellent D.

7. I know people are going to be upset about this, but I like that three ball by Cam. I know it wasn't the best shot, but you had numbers and Cam is a pretty decent three-point shooter. That's a good look that you are not going to get if you slow it down.

8. The refs were a travesty on both sides. That was a horrific game to watch. That was not pretty.

9. One thing I did like in this game. They didn't go three-happy like last year's team. They weren't knocking them down, and they didn't put up 30 three's. They only put up 11 and started attacking down low. Good basketball right there.

10. Usually I put a positive spin on something here, and there is positivity with this team, but I have to say this: You usually don't see a player get worse as his career continues, especially in college. Yet JP Prince has done that. He's almost downright terrible. I like Cam off the bench, but Pearl has to figure out how to wake up JP.

I agree with all of the above.

Folks, we lost to a top 10 team by 1 in the 5th game of the season. We had a chance to win with a wide open look from one of our best shooters. Yeah, we lost but I already see improvement over last year.

Agree completely with #7. He was open, got set, and didn't rush it. It was in the flow of the game.

Make us all feel better and share.

Aside from pick and roll, our defense looks a lot more aggressive and overall better. Goins brings some good intensity on that side of the ball and Maze has improved. It also looks like we can actually implement a full court press this year that will be effective, unlike last year. Offensively, we're not jacking up as many threes, we are at least trying to use the strength of this team - the front court. Although Hopson hasn't shown improvement against man, he has proven he can break down the zone (of course not against legitimate competition, but still). Anything else you want to add? Or are you just gonna look at the negatives (not saying there aren't any)?

JP does pretty good off the bench. I think Pearl needs to let Tatum get his minutes, and let JP get off the bench. Tatum's play yesterday deserves a start or two.

excellent post and i agree with everything. I would like to see better rebounding though. And we haven't picked apart by the pick-n-roll yet, but it's early.

Wouldn't hurt. All I know that in five games JP has started, he has brought nothing to the table, and that's being generous. He was the Sixth Man his sophomore year, so we should at least see what he has.

As for point #1, I don't blame Chism for taking the shot, unless he was told to not take a three, but I believe he was given the green light and that is a bad call.

UT was so close to a big win. This seems like one of those Sweet Sixteen type match ups that UT can't quite win. Frustrating.

granted... we weren't blown out. and the D might be improved.

BUT... we have a VERY experienced team that couldn't get it together in the final 5-7 minutes. the last 5 minutes looked like the close games we lost at the end of the year last year.... miss st and ok st.

AND we "out-athletic" them at almost every position. so if Purdue is a better team it's not because they have more talent. it's something else. something that's happening on non-game days.

however... if the "play call" during the TO before the free throws was what happened on the floor... you have your reason.

if someone on the bench thinks a 3 from Chism is our best chance to get a bucket.... then we'll be celebrating NCAA tournament berths and sweet 16 exits for many years to come.
