To be fair, he's also had 6 different HC jobs over 30 years, and was at UAB for like 12.

Almost seems like possibly a result of being a meh-level coach and being in the head coach business for so long.

Beat a ranked ECU in 99.

Beat Nick Saban's Tigers at LSU in 2000.

Almost beat a top 5 UGA in 2003.

Got UAB ranked in 2004.

And hasn't done **** in 10 years

He won the OVC and got TTU into the FCS playoffs about 4 years ago. While that won't make any national headlines, that's quite impressive for TTU.

Football (well sports in general) at TTU gets less support than a lot of high school programs in TN. They actually have a pretty decent FCS level stadium that seats about 17K, but they are lucky if they draw 2K a game. Their biggest rival was MTSU and that ended when MTSU moved up, and there's a better chance of dropping football altogether than TTU ever moving up to FBS.

And Cookeville is probably best known as a pit stop on the way to Knoxville.

Since Watson Brown has been at Tech, they have played the following teams:

2007 - Auburn
2008 - Louisville
2009 - Georgia
2009 - Kansas St.
2010 - Arkansas
2010 - TCU
2011 - Iowa
2012 - Oregon
2013 - Wisconsin
2014 - Heard they were supposed to play Houston but was cancelled (still got paid though)

Assuming each game paid Tech 400k, that is 4 million.

That is one reason why I believe Coach Watson contract was extended through 2019.

Connections.

And it didn't hurt when they won the 2011 OVC championship.

Spent the majority of his career taking on project programs. I think he is actually a role model and good man.

A few years ago I was wearing a TTU shirt and a guy with a UAB hat ran up to me and thanked me for taking Watson. I honestly think he has done as well as you can in Cookeville. Seems like the guy is good enough to keep a job but they are mostly at places that you can't win with any consistency.

Been associated with Cookeville all my life. And actually live here now. They got $500K for the Oregon game. Their entire athletic budget, men and women, is 1.5 million. Florida football budget alone is $54 million. You do what you can. Brown is a very good man, and good for Tech. Its hard to draw a crowd when most folks are headed to Knoxville. They try to compensate by scheduling most home games on Thursday night. Also, several local businesses buy alot of the tickets. You can get them free by visiting their tailgating tents. Still a good family night out though. TTU is most definitely an academic school, and a very good one.
