Tennessee can win today but they have to play smart. The things that worry me is free throw shooting. I think Tenn is 12th in SEC in shooting free throws. In close games in the Sec and NCAA tourney you got to make your shots from foul line.

Well Kentucky is obviously the better team, but Tennessee may be catching them at the right time. Tennessee coming off a loss to a team they had no business losing too and Kentucky having to play two games in the span of 3 days. If there was ever a time to get them it's now.

DEFENSE...DEFENSE...DEFENSE! We got to play good defense all game and be able to close it out at the end. Of coarse we have a chance to win.:rock2:

I know but the way Tennessee is at the free throw line worries me in close games. Vols probaly could have won 2 or 3 more games by shooting good at the line. They give up 8 to 10 pts a game at the line.

I think this game will be a close one. I predict the Cats win it by 5 points.

I find this one hard to swallow, why did UT have no business losing to a team they barely beat in Knoxville?

The Vols are catching UK at a vulnerable time right now. I expect a huge, rowdy crowd today…probably the largest hostile group the Cats have faced this season. IF UT breaks out of the gate quickly, establishes a 10+ point lead, gets UK flustered and fouling…it may be a long day in TBA.

Considering they been very slow starters this season, I'd say this is a huge if.

The key phrase here is that they need to play smart. When this Tennessee team plays smart basketball, they are world-beaters. When they play to their instincts, they are lazy and show little passion on the floor.
I predict a UT victory.

Go Vols.

True, but I keep remembering that game back on January 10th. If UT could pull that one off, they can manage this one too...depends on how the ball bounces and which way the whistles are blowing.

The Cats have shown they are much more mentally tough than the Vols....

The Vols can win but they will have to play a great game and for 40 minutes, not 20 or 32...

Cats-71
Vols-68

My mind is telling me a low scoring game, but my gut says Pearl seen them last game and going to make the right adjustments and Maze and Hopson will have big games.

UT wanted this ball game and played like it. Congrats to the Vols on their sustained effort this afternoon.

You guys just punched your ticket to the Big Dance.

Tennessee was going regardless.

Punched not falling to another 9 seed.

That's what UT punched. And Kentucky... right in the face.

Could any one please find and post the actual ruling on what constitutes a blocking foul and a charge in the current college game? I watched the game today with a die-hard KY. fan, who is a high school ref, and he said there were at least 4 blocking fouls called on the Vols that were blatant charges by the Cats. He called every one of them a "gift". He and I both know about "leaning into", etc. I'm just curious what the actual ruling states. Anyone? From the rule book, please, not an interpretation. Thanks and GO VOLS!!!

Charge/Block
A basic tenent of the game of basketball is that a player is entitled to his spot
on the playing court no matter where it is, providing that he established that
spot first without illegally contacting an opponent. When a player impedes
the progress of an opponent with illegal contact, that player has committed
a blocking foul. When a defensive player has established legal position on
the playing court and an opponent illegally contacts the defender’s torso by
pushing or moving into the defender, he has committed a charging foul.
Again, this year, the charge and block situations occurring at the basket
area are the points of emphasis. Any illegal contact that occurs at the basket
area by either the offensive or defensive player (block, charge, player
control fouls) shall be accordingly penalized as prescribed by the rules.
Only when the following occurs shall the penalty not be applied:
1. The force of the contact by the offensive player is such that it is
inconsequential, but the defensive player fakes a foul.
2. When the defensive player has legally established a position under the
basket and contact occurs after the ball passes through the net, unless
the defensive player has been placed at a disadvantage (e.g., inability to
rebound, unable to put ball in play without delay.)
Although this year’s points of emphasis are concerned with fouls
occurring at the basket area, there are no exceptions to the charge/block
rules as to where the illegal contact occurs on the playing court.
