So were your UT/Memphis alter egos fighting during this game considering you had kids go to each school?
Well, to keep peace in the family we respect the fact that each has their own team and we are polite about it. It helped that it was a close game. As the Dad, I try to support them both, but they know that since we (the family) has always lived in Memphis and I have always followed the Tigers that I am only pretending to be neutral.
I have never believed that pulling for one team is the same as hating another. Even if it is a team you have a long standing rivalry with and they generally beat you, they become a standard for you to measure yourself against and beating them is a goal to accomplish. Sometimes, even if it only rarely, you pull it off and take down the big dog!! I am afraid I taught my family that having a team you pull for is about having fun and not to make it life and death so your world crashes in if you don't win. I hated Memphis losing to Tenn back in 08 and losing our #1 ranking, but I was proud of the fact that both #1 and #2 were for a time in the state of Tennessee.
