Ever notice all the former hires Tennessee could barely find a job after getting fired. Kiffin the only one I recall and he left, they didn’t release him. People worried about payouts they don’t care it’s not their money nothing comes out if their accounts. It’s just their job to them.
It's actually the ones we didn't want or the ones we ran off in coordinator roles that are doing solid now.Ever notice all the former hires Tennessee could barely find a job after getting fired. Helton
Clawson
Doeren
Dykes
All those come to mind. I think we might look back in 3-5 years and regret not making Chadwell our hire though. I'm encouraged by Heupel, but I think Chadwell has a higher ceiling.
Very few HC’s in college get fired and move right into a new HC gig. Recents have been Sumlin from aTm to Arizona (already fired) and Addazio fromBC toCSU and he is already on hot seat. They have to move to Alabama analyst or be a coordinator somewhere and try to get another HC job.Let's take a look at the history on this (only included are coaches that were head coaches and that were hired as HC immediately after their tenure at Tennessee)
1. Hubert Fisher- Left UT in 1903 and became HC for Nashville University in 1904
2. Zora G. Clevenger- Left UT in 1915 and became HC for Kansas State in 1916
3. John Barnhill- Left UT in 1945 and became HC for Arkansas in 1946
4. Doug Dickey- Left UT in 1969 and became HC for Florida in 1970
5. Johnny Majors- Left UT in 1992 and became HC for Pitt in 1993
6. Lane Kiffin- Left UT in 2009 and became HC for USC in 2010
Since the very first head coach in 1899, only six HC's have been immediately hired as HC's after their departure
I think Dooley was WR coach at Dallas right after being fired. Several of our hires got jobs immediately afterwards, some may have taken a step down but most were in demand.Dare I say Sunseri actually went down to FSU as D-line coach (I think) and won a national title.
Important: He was hot garbage here as a DC. Glad we got rid of him.

I mean, the university continues to pay them after they leave, so it's not like they have to find another job.Ever notice all the former hires Tennessee could barely find a job after getting fired. Then there’s Butch….
I’ve listened to a few of Butch’s Arky St press conferences, and he still says a whole lot but yet, so little.Speaking of Butch, just saw where his Arkansas State Team # Whatever has lost six in a row. But, I’m sure his boys are over there:
fighting for blades of grass
getting 1% better each day
giving 63 effort (strain 3 times in 6 seconds)
taking mental and leadership reps
using great eye discipline
playing complimentary football
snapping and clearing
Hopefully, he hasn’t told the Jonesboro, AR press corps the story of his 3 year study with Marv Lewis-Cincy Bengals on when to freeze a FG Kicker, or referred to his mysterious PAT chart (when to go for 2 points after TD). And I hope he hasn’t had to report any player injuries from falling on a helmet.
A poster from Cincinnati came on here and warned us/summed it up perfectly when he posted “Butch isn’t a head coach but he plays one on TV”. Nothing other than that really needs to be said about him.I’ve listened to a few of Butch’s Arky St press conferences, and he still says a whole lot but yet, so little.
GBO!!
He was at Dallas. I remember watching a MNF game between the Titans and Cowboys, and Dez Bryant missed a pass from Romo, either because of a poor pass or a bad route run, but either way he didn’t catch it. It caused a 4th down and when Bryant got to the sideline, Dooley marched over to DB (while he was walking towards the bench with his back to Dooley, mind you) and then DB abruptly turned around and started giving Dooley the business and yelling and pointing back in his face down at him.I think Dooley was WR coach at Dallas right after being fired.
