The Vols are a two point favorite on Canbet.com. That's about what I expected.

Most season's I would take that in a heartbeat but SM is going to have a new QB and they need someone to step it up at RB. Also, they are replacing most of the LB corps. That said, I will not be surprised if SM stays within 10 points of UF the entire game.

You're right on with the QB and RB, but are you sure about the LBs? They return 6 of their top 8 and only lose 1 starter.

Has anyone actually seen Cal play??

If they were in the SEC they would be around the middle or bottom of either division. They arent that good. I am expecting a dominant performance by our D.

I like ya, but I think you're wrong. Cal would challenge for each division this season. Last season? 3rd in either one.

I cant say that i like you, i dont hate you, just not like. Anyway i disagree 100%.

Maybe i am being optimistic here, but that is my job as a diehard UT fan. They got manhandled by a worthless Oregon St. team. Almost blew the bowl game against BYU. I just dont think they are SEC calibur.

Also i know u are from Pac 10 country and you know more about those teams so i do respect your input on them.

Can u give me some good reason why they have a chance???

I lived in Knoxville for 22 years. I've lived in Arizona for 1 year.

My job as a UT fan isn't to diminish other teams' talent, but to love my team to no extent. Cal would be a solid SEC team, but UT is better.

Cal has a chance for these reasons:

1. Cal could have just as easily been 9-2 as 7-4. They were NOT manhandled by Oregon State. They lost be 3. (yes, they should have won that game)

2. Tennessee was 5-6 last season as was absolutely terrible on offense. If Tennessee doesn't improve drastically on that side of the ball, it will negate the PAC 10's poor overall defense.

3. Cal has talent at every skill position on offense, and is CHOCKED FULL of talent on defense. There are 2 All American talent players on offense (Lynch and Forsett, though Forsett will never get the carries to actually make AA) and 4 on defense (Mebane, Bishop, Mixon, Hughes). If we put too much emphasis on stopping Mebane, Mbakogu and Tafisi will get into the backfield.

4. They return 15 starters. Although I think this stat is overrated, it still has merit. They are more experienced and mature at every position, except offensive line.

Now, CBC, I agree with you that Tennessee should and I predict they WILL win this game against Cal, maybe by more than a touchdown. However, to say Cal has no chance seems kind of over the top.

I know they have a chance. I am actually very worried about them. That worry though comes mainly from what i have heard about them. Not seen. I just see the Pac-10 as USC and a bunch of fillers. I just cant see them matching our talent by any means.

Is Tedford a good coach?? Does he take chances??

Just so you know what I was referring to. When you asked the above question, it implied you didn't think Cal had a chance.

Tedford is a good coach, but his biggest win was against #3 USC in 2003. As a head coach, Cal is 5-5 against top 25 teams (3 of those losses are USC). Tedford was named Pac 10 coach of the year in 2002 and 2004.

He has a pretty aggressive style.

I believe Cal is currently ranked #12 and UT #23 in the Coach's poll. What does that say about polls? Apparently the guys who make betting lines don't have much confidence in them. Sounds like they should decide who deserves to play for the NC.

The lines are made to get a split down the middle. The odds makers get pumped up way too much about how they see the game. None of them care who wins. They want a 50/50 split and rake in the juice.

exactly, that's why a line will shift due to the flow of the bets

I think if the Vols hold Lynch in check and score more that 24 we win, if Lynch gets over 100, we may be in for a long day

I would also like to state for the record that I do not gamble or condone such immoral activities.

Watch yourself in dark alleys and quiet streets. Bookies hate that kind of info.
