Looks like the Vols lost 6-3 today with Adkins on the mound. Haven't had a chance to check out the box score yet. It looks like EMU had a 4 run second inning and we never recovered.

Not good.

Not seeing but one inning of the game due to basketball priority today, we will have to rely on the box to give us a summary....

The bad news is that we made 3 errors today in the first 2 innings, 2 of which were very costly. Those 3 errors provided EMU with 3 unearned runs. We must get better defensively ASAP. EMU had 4 errors, but we could not capitalize, due to our cold bats...

Speaking of bats, only 6 hits today and Tony D and Lima had 2 each. Not enough balance yet in the lineup to offset woes in other areas...of our 3 runs, only one was batted in; the other 2 scored on a PB and an error....

Interesting note - we have hit 2 HR so far this year (in 5 games); EMU has hit 5 in this series....

2 wild pitches from James Adkins and a passed ball by JP did not help...James is now 0-2 on the young season...EMU was 3/4 in stolen bases, while we were 1/3 (all by Tony D) - that surprises and alarms me, although we will get better as that is our trademark....

Bottom line is that we aren't playing well and we need to get better soon. If you follow college baseball to any degree, you understand that you will lose some games to what people perceive as "weaker" teams from non-BCS conferences (to borrow a football analogy). That's just the nature of the game of baseball; sometimes you go up against a hot club or pitcher and they're just better. Tomorrow's game is big for us, as the key is to take (or try to take) each series that you play. The rubber game is at 2, so come support the VOLS and help them get on the right track. It's early.....

Has to be aggravating to pitch a good game, a winable game, and the fielders give up not 1 but 3 unearned runs.
