how can you have more yard per catch 7.1 than you do yards per pass 6.1? Don't they have to be equal?

Don’t recall the last time I saw that stat line
Very interesting. We definitely struggled with passing efficiency, but we are capable of explosive plays. The strength of our team so far is the running game and defense. Which if you had to choose two areas to be great in it’s hard not to choose those two.

I would rather see us be great at running the ball and struggling with passing. Then us being great at passing and struggling running the ball. At least this is something we can build on and continue to improve. A lot of that has to do with Joe Milton.

I just saw the passing numbers. Milton was 21 of 33 for 228 yards 3 TD passes and 1 rushing TD. If you were to tell me, those were the stats before the game, I would say it’s not that bad, there were some dropped passes, but the biggest thing is Milton overthrows and misses open receivers regularly. So the stats don’t completely tell the story.

90% screens. That's not going to work forever.

We had five to seven catchable drop’s depending on one’s opinion. Add five catches to that stat line, and suddenly it’s pretty impressive. Milton had a bad game, but the receivers had a worse one. They also blocked poorly, held, and were called for two offensive PI’s. Pretty bad showing.

I don’t blame the receivers for the PI. Heupel has been informed REPEATEDLY that they are going to call that if the ball is thrown past the line of scrimmage. It’s a simple adjustment to throw it a yard backwards instead of forward. The rest of the receivers performance was trash. Not sure why Webb or Leacock is playing behind Thornton.

In this case the numbers lie. Everything was screens and swing passes. The slants and posts and verticals were 0

FWIW, It was 2 TD Passes and 1 Rush.

Couldn’t get to 30 points if it had been 4 TDs unless the Vols got a Safety (which they didn’t).
