Tennessee Band pregame march

That's Salute to the Hill, same as here: http://m.youtube.com/v/2DMCcMJUhOA

This is pregame (the first half, anyway): Pride of the Southland Pregame Show Pt 1 11-21-09 - YouTube

But I get your point, would be nice if The Pride could have a YouTube account to post videos each week like utsports does.

Lets hope the changes in the leadership of the PSMB may bring some dramatic changes. A few years ago, Our Band was as good as any in the Nation, but the old leadership let it fall to where it was no better than the middle of the pack.

amen. Not a fan of Sousa on a musical level nor on a personal/alumni level.

I want the Pride to get the national espn exposure that potSunshine and BDBITL get.

No reason we shouldn't.

we need a new Salute to the Hill video, for CBJ and all the changes that are coming to UT

Well about 6 months ago VN was convinced the band would no longer be doing anything, so I guess we should be grateful for any videos of the band at this point. =)

But I agree with you, it would be nice if we could get something other than fan-made recordings of the Pride. Or digital downloads of the CDs they have produced. Or anything remotely involved in this decade technology-wise.

I'm an alumni, and called asking if I could purchase the CD they put out around 2000, as my copy got stolen, and the latest CD doesn't have pregame on it. I was told they have 1 copy for the library and that's it. Why can't that be put online somewhere? iTunes, google play, something?

Hopefully new leadership will bring in a new modern vision as well, and we can get some these things.

Maybe I'm forgetting something, but what changes are you expecting to see with Butch Jones and Salute to the Hill? The team will have been in the stadium for nearly 2 hours before this happens.

Can you really compare the halftime shows between UT and Ohio State? Those shows they did this past year were very creative.

No, you absolutely can't. But there's no reason The Pride can't be innovative.

90% (circle drill notwithstanding) of the shows the Pride have put on in the last 12 years have been dog shat. It's recycled music and drill. I'm hoping new leadership will bring the kind of creativity OSU is showing.

Back in my day......

I wont forget one of the first lessons Dr Julian taught me about the POTSB. I was a freshman and we were discussing the shows they put on. He reminded me that unlike HS where the shows are geared for competition, The Pride does shows for the entertainment of (then) 95,000 fans. They don't care how hard it is to turn an arc asymmetrically on a pivot point but make an eagle and the fans will go wild. So true.

In that, the OSU band took it to a new level in their shows. With the new marching software these days it is so much easier to make fun shows like they do in a relatively short time. In the past it might days weeks to make a show. IMO, what you see OSU doing will be the norm very, very soon. Except for Bama, Auburn, and Fla who do nothing more than stand and play.

Greve and PotS thanks for sharing your stories and viewpoints about the band. I grew up in Lenoir City and we always had a great band under Ric Best. My mom worked in the music dept. and Ric has been a family friend as long as I can remember.

Regarding Ohio St., there is a commercial out (maybe Apple) that shows the band members carrying iPads on the field. Is there some sort of mapping software that is being used that shows each move? If so, that's pretty incredible.

This is a cool video from field level during pregame. The crowd is pretty loud too.

The best up-to-date videos are done by a Pride member's parents, and the channel is Nathan Cron - YouTube. I'm pretty sure they attend every game and always have great seats to do this (crappy if you're trying to watch a football game, though)

doesn't surprise me about someone using a ipad. When we would practice each member had a letter and number assigned to them and you looked for it on the charts. The charts were on legal size paper and it could be from a few pages to quite a few. I can see where the Ipads would come in handy

Not just a commercial, gameday did a whole segment on it. It was right about the time the Pride was getting national exposure for the crap storm of negative pub regarding Sousa and Pride leadership.

Were talking about pre game and halftime shows... let's get a good show from our team, then worry about our band

1. Don't come in this thread. Thread title was specific.

2. Go follow an NFL team.

Yes, we want our football team to be good, too, but there are 1000s of other threads where you can b!tch about it.
