Tennessee feeling pressure to succeed

Tennessee's new offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe wanted to meet quarterback Erik Ainge.

But first, there were a couple of mandates.
"The first time he sat me down in his office, he made me turn my hat around and take my earrings out," said Ainge of Cutcliffe, who mentored NFL stars Peyton and Eli Manning during their college days. "I came away thinking, 'I'll do and listen to everything this guy has to say.' "

The Volunteers, who host Cal on Saturday, need a similarly quick turnaround after last season's squad provided plenty of fodder for sports radio shows in the form of an underachieving team, a quarterback controversy and a coach potentially on the hot seat.
Wait a minute ...

Coach Phil Fulmer, the man who has a contract through 2011, has a national championship and has the best winning percentage (.7757) of any active coach with at least 10 years of experience, is one bad year away from being fired?
The man, who has won more games (95) than any other Southeastern Conference school in the last decade, has coached 13 first-team All-Americans and has posted eight seasons of 10 or more wins, is on the verge of being ousted?
