How do you think that we are going to do next season? I personally think that we will be awful considering Fulmer brought in no good recruits. I mean what good players did he bring in? Who will be the quarterback?

There will be no ggod recruits and we will finish out of the top 25 and 4th in the SEC east

There are very few true freshman who walk on campus and make an immediate impact on the field. We will be fine with what we got and Ainge will be listed as number in spring. It is his job to lose. I think the coaches learned their lesson and will not go back and forth.

most of the freshman from last years class were redshirted so our class wont be as bad as it looks

Most people base their expectations for an upcoming season on what they have returning, scheduele, etc. I've never really heard anyone base their entire expectations on a below average recruiting class. The effects of that class won't be felt until at least 07' and probably 08' or later.
With that being said, most people feel we have more than enough talent to compete for the division and the conference next year. We've all seen UT win the east with less talent(i.e. 04'). The big question is, was last year an aberation or a trend? Will Fulmer and the new staff pull the talent together? Unfortunately we have a long time before those questions are answered.

Well I really havent done any research on this, but someone told me that last years class that had this awful season was a top recruiting class. So im not really going to judge anything on recruiting. I think Ainge will start out..Saying that hopefully its the Ainge we seen his freshmen year & not the one we seen the last. Some people might think im crazy but if we win our non-conference games at the first of the season that will get us going & we will have only one at the most two losses in the season! GO BIG ORANGE!!! :dance2:

Spring ball is just a few days away, and some question marks like team chemistry and depth begin to reveal themselves during this time. All the questions won't be answered until the season rolls up. But there will be enough reporters writing enough material to keep me happy for at least a little while.

i think 9-3 is about right...maybe better if we get a few breaks....i think the coaches and players will be playing a little pissed off next season....

is anyone else sick and tired of all these new threads popping up about next season?

I'm not trying to pop any threads against UT. I love the Vols and am hoping for a good season, but I was just wondering what everyone else thought because I just don't see it happening this year. :bad:

ah, stick around a while, have some kool aid....we'll be fine next season....don't know if we'll be championship worthy, but i just don't see us beating ourselves like we did last year.....UF and LSU and maybe Auburn, are the only teams on paper that are just hands down better than us....imo. Plus the schedule is a little more friendly to us this season...

buck up!

Right on GVF. We still have both bball teams, baseball and spring practice to get through before the real fball talk needs to start.

First of all, to say we brought in no good recruits is absolutely absurd. Walter Fisher, Jacques McClendon, Ramone Johnson, Darius Myers, Brent Vinson, Cody Pope, Gerald Williams, Nick Stephens, etc are all very good prospects. It was a consensus Top 25 class. Below typical UT standards but not a terrible class, that is ridiculous. And ONE class is not gonna make or break a program, that too is ridiculous. They will have no impact on what kind of team we are THIS year. Also, we did have what some considered the #1 ranked recruiting class in the country just over a year ago.

Now to you question, we may have a bad year, but it will have nothing to do with the recruits we brought in this year......nothing! If we have a bad year, it will be because we don't get significantly better play from the QB position, out of either Ainge or Crompton. It will be because the WRs don't bounce back from being what Fulmer said was the most disappointing unit he has ever coached at Tennessee. He thinks they have a lot of potential. It will be because our OLine doesn't gel and become a good offensive front. Thats why we will be awful, IF we indeed end up being a bad team. I myself disagree with you and think we will be a good football team.

Here is why I think we will be a good team. I believe in this program. I believe last year was a fluke. There is a reason Tennessee has won as many games as almostt any school in the country over the last 15 years. I don't run and hide or turn my back on the team after one bad season.

I think our defense can be outstanding. Chavis said yesterday, that our defense has a chance to be better in a couple areas. Much to my surprise, he said LB was one of them. Our defensive front will be very good once again. Justin Harrell and Turk McBride will be as good as any starting duo in the SEC. Will have to build depth this spring with young guys like Bolden and Richards. Thats how it is every year and all programs. Every team loses players, other step up and there are always question marks that have to be answered. I LOVE our DEs. Xavier Mitchell is a stud in the making, Robert Ayers has first round potential written all over him. Reynolds looks like a good pass rusher off the edge. Gerald Williams is gonna be very good. Walter Fisher, one of those no good 5* recruits we brought in, is coming in from JUCO and will make a major impact right away at DE. Our secondary has everyone returning(I don't count Allen because we were without him the last half of the season anyway). Many players on the team say Demetrice Morely is the most talented DB on the team and now that he will be more in tune with the mental side of the game at safety, he will be a starter and get to showcase those skills. I love Jerod Mayo at LB...instant upgrade over Jason Mitchell. Some feel Karl will be better suited at OLB in some ways than Gaither was, better at knowing his assignments and better in pass coverage. Also a better athlete than people realize. I like Marvin Mitchell. Rico McCoy is being raved about by Chavis, who is also very high on Andre Mathis.

On offense, I love the Coach Cut is back. The Olineman and WRs are all smaller and quicker than last year. Cut demanded they lose weight and they have. Coach Cut is an outstanding QB coach I and expect him to do very good things with our QBs. Arain Foster looked pretty good as a freshman last year. Have to get healthy at RB. I think Coach Trooper Taylor will have a tremendous impact on our WRs(who I believe are quite talented).

We are the University of Tennessee and we're not just gonna go away quietly. Defense very good again this year, offense much improved, something to prove by both coaches and players. Bounce back year for my Vols!

I didn't hear no bell........lol

There isn't a team in the SEC that I will say is "hands down" better than us. We beat LSU last year, we could have beat UF. We beat ourselves in the UF, Bama, and South Carolina games. Its not like we got dominated last year. We had a chance to win every game.

If Coach Cut and the new coaches can allow our offense to be significantly improved(and there is no reason that they can't) then we could be a very good team and compete for the SEC Championship. I have seen our past defense go from worst to first in the SEC over a ONE year period. The offense can turn things around and they can do it in ONE year.

Not to sound mean, but I think you couldn't be more wrong. This years recruits were good (still top 25) but weren't the 1st in the nation like last year. Las year's was a GREAT recruiting class, and almost all of them redshirted. That means that we've got people with 4 years eligibility left, who've done nothing by learn the game for a year.

If ANYTHING, this year's recruiting will hurt in a couple or three years, if it hurts us at all. We recruited a lot of position players this year that usually don't get the big time ratings, because a lot of time it's hard to rank that many OL and DE's. 3 star players might turn out really good. Think of how many star nfl players went to middle of nowhere state.

We've got two 5 star quarterbacks here right now. Ainge needs to work on his head and he'll be fine, we KNOW he's got the talent. Crompton hasn't played yet, but he should be pretty good.

In short, we'll be fine, we still got good players recruiting wise, and we've got a lot of kids that were best of the best out of high school that should be able to begin contributing next year. :twocents:

I think there is only one way we can go next season, UP. Fulmers job is riding on a winning season next year, and I'm positive we'll get it. Depending on how Ainge or Crompton plays I think we're looking at 8-4.

I won't make a prediction, but go look at next year's schedule and compare it to last year's. It is still tough, but much, much more favorable. We trade Notre Dame for Cal and get Florida, LSU and Alabama at home.

Sorry folks! The vols will have another sub par season next year. Maybe one or two more wins, but dont hold your breath. The calibur of play at the other SEC teams like; Georgia, Flordia.LSU even Alabama is superior to ours right now. We will have to have a few stong years of back to back recuriting to get back in the hunt. I know it's painful, but the truth will set you free. So , enjoy the season for the sport of football, not the W-L record. If that dont take the pain away, try some Jack!

That right there means neg. credibility pts. You really think UAT is doing better than us right now? We have also out-recruited those teams in the past few years. Amazing...

so because we beat ourselves in the georgia, uf, and bama games last year and BEAT lsu that makes them superior to us how?!?!?!? also if you think this recruiting class is going to have any kind of impact this year you know very little about football imo because there MIGHT be 1 or 2 guys out of that class that see some playing time but it's doubtful. and maybe you also forgot that #1 recruiting class we had last year that got redshirted and so almost all of the still have 4 years of football at UT.

It is very pleasing to know that after being gone for two weeks that nothing has changed!

:p

P.S. We will be fine next year. (9) Wins *Worth noting that is probably a down year for most on the board.*
