Due to our wandering in the Valley of Despair so long, the only real rivalry we had is Kentucky. We may not hold them in much regard, but to them we're what Bama, Florida, and Georgia is to us. They hate our guts. Their Super Bowl dream is to simply beat us in either basketball or football, but especially football. But if Josh brings us back, really, really, back, the Bamas, Slobber dogs, and Lizards will be the rivalries they once were, and regard us as such. So, here's to the return of the good old days.

Tennessee it seems is everybody's rival, always getting other teams best shot. You think Georgia will play UT like they did UK last week. Heck no! Same with UF, Bama, etc. Never any freebies. Even Oklahoma, intentional playing vanilla on offense not to give anything away. You think UT will see the team that barely beat Houston 16-12 two weeks ago. No, they are saving their best performance for UT.

It is totally true.

A bunch of teams have really great in-state rivalries or next-state-over rivalries that are just an unbelievably important thing and endless entertainment for the fans of both teams. UT is important but it is missing that element of the game. UT fans will never experience it and that's that. UT fans will have to watch Dr. Pepper commercials and imagine what that would be like in real life.

There is clearly an arrow pointing from candy to us and from us to the gumps. Regardless what the goober that created that mess thinks , everyone brings their "A" game for us. Imho bamma and floriduh will remain our biggest rivals. Would like to see a TN. vs tex thing get started ,or UT vs. ut jr. As I like to call em.lol

16 to 14…lol….A loss to Houston would hurt OU about 10 times more than a loss to Tenn.
You don’t build chemistry sluffing off!

Fact is we’re a lot of teams’ second greatest rival. Bama, certainly. Georgia. Right now we’re probably 3rd for Florida but that can change from decade to decade. For that matter, if Auburn stays down for a while, the TSIO will likely overtake the Iron Bowl in the popular consciousness. Hard to match the acrimony of that one given that the Barners and Gumps live amongst one another, but the TSIO has the potential to be one of the games that decides the conference again. For that reason, I’ll be holding my nose and pulling for Bama against the Mutts in a week.

The true reciprocal rivals are, and they are very few. Meaning a majority of your fanbase wants to beat them more than anyone and vice a versa.
Ohio State v Michigan
Alabama v Auburn Iron Bowl
Army v Navy
and that's about it
some others are close but not to these scales
A lot of teams like Vandy hate Vols with a vengeance but it's a lay-up for Vols and very little fervor.

Some Michigan fans claim it’s MSU.

I think it depends on the state of the involved programs.

We’ve stunk it up for 15+ years, so we’re not a threat to any of the top teams.

But, because we’ve been down, it gives teams like Vanderbilt and Kentucky hope. So they have our game circled.

And I would bet good money that we were seen as a monster rivalry game in the 90s by Florida, Georgia and Alabama.

Those Florida games were national-level games every year.

And does anyone think that Georgia ever thinks about Georgia Tech? No freaking way.

So…as we continue our ascent under CJH, I expect us to be circled on a lot of other teams’ schedules again.

The majority of Kentucky fans 100% see us as their most hated rival in football. So their arrow should point to us as well

Some folks just haven’t lived long enough. Throughout history Tennessee has had many tense rivalries. Vanderbilt,Alabama,Auburn and Florida at one time or other have been intense rivalries at times during history. In the 80’s when we played auburn at game 2 or 3 it was a huge game. That shifted to Florida in the 90’s. Bama and Vandy have been big games throughout history. But in the sec all games are almost like a rivalry. But new rivalries will be born with this 16 team conference. I could see Texas and Oklahoma developing other rivals themselves now there are in sec. GBO

It's out of date. LSU crossed Tulane off their schedule many years ago - I don't think they play ULL all that often either.
I'm thinking Missouri-Kansas is out of date too.
Missouri/Kansas rivalry is alive and well. Basketball the last 3 years with 2 more to go. Football starts again next season. Mr Brightside is sung at every home game with not so nice pleasantries thrown Kansas way during it.
Missouri policy does not allow money to be spent in Kansas and all teams stay on the Missouri side and commute to Larry.
