As was proven over time, Neyland was meant to have natural Grass. That "Plastic stuff" over concrete (Astroturf, Tartan Turf) just didn't pass the common sense sniff. Grass and the dirt beneath it are much more forgiving. Thank goodness Tennessee (after too many knees) got it back right. Majors lobbied for the return to grass, and UT went back; but in 1994, right after Majors was let go.
