Tennessee Lady Vol News

You have your two experienced point guards on the same team. I’d split up Walker and Horston.
That was on purpose because I have the best post player and one of the top two wing players on the other team.
Key vs Saunders large edge Key, Green vs Striplin I have as even although experience factor to Green, Puckett vs Suarez even at least, Horston vs. Wynn edge Horston, Burrell vs Dye I have this as virtually even JMO some may agree or disagree, Walker vs Miles edge Walker, Darby vs Rennie even.

So although team A seems to have a nice edge with the inside game, Team B has an advantage on the perimeter. I deem the three and four even.

Key and Burrell are by leaps and bounds our 2 best returning PER players. (Player Efficiency Rating)
That can't be true since Dye was .495 percent from the field averaged 16.6 points and 12.2 rebounds last season. She also had 19 blocks 32 steals and 25 assists. 464 total points.
Burrell came in at .458 from the field 16.8 points and 4.6 rebounds last season. She had 10 blocks 24 steals and 46 assists. 419 total points with 69 total turnovers.
No way there is any difference in efficiency that separates them as players last season that could make them a better option for one team or another.

Dye scored 464 points on 412 shot attempts. Burrell scored 419 on 343 1.22 to 1.13 doesn't give you much effective difference in their ability to score efficiently. Dye is clearly the better rebounder and Burrell better free throw shooter. Steals and blocks and turnovers come out about even.

You could put one or the other on either team but both can't be on the same team.

Key is by far our best post and there is no way to compensate for that except to give the other team the best point guards since when you line out the wings you come up about even.

So you can go Key and Dye or Key and Burrell with either Burrell or Dye on the other team with Saunders doing the best to compensate for Key by adding Horston and Walker to the team opposite Key.

Both Dye and Burrell run the floor very well still no way Burrell is better here either as Dye can really run the floor and beat teams down court for baskets.

Dye took zero shots from 3 last season, so that helps explain the .500 shooting average. And she has not proved herself at the P5 or SEC level. (Not saying she can't. I believe she can. Just hasn't proved it yet.) As of today, I'll take Burrell over Dye on my team.

If we had an Orange and White Scrimmage game here is how I would split the teams up:

Key
Green
Puckett
Wynn
Burrell
Miles
Darby

versus

Saunders
Striplin
Suarez
Horston
Dye
Walker
Rennie

I think that would be a fairly even game.
question is why arent we having a orange and white scrimmage saw SC did it and it brought out 1000+ fans for a SCRIMMAGE!!!

Although limited, Dye averages 23 pts and 11 rbs against P5 competition. Dye has played two games at the P5 level--both games were against SEC schools. Against Mississippi State, Dye scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds. In the other game, Dye scored 26 points and had 11 rebounds against Texas A&M in the most recent NCAAT. This small sample size provides us with a glimpse of what we might see from this young lady in the upcoming season. Can't wait.

You don't have to take Burrell over Dye they are on the same team. The point being made is that Dye's stats are comparable to Burrell last season and if your playing a scrimmage game you don't put them both on the same team. My choice was Burrell and Key vs. Horston, Dye, and Walker with Saunders. I chose to put Dye there to elevate that teams rebounding as Dye has a lot better rebounding stats than Burrell from last season. If you want to put Dye with Key that would be fine as well. Burrell is better than Dye in some areas and Dye is better than Burrell in some areas. I'm just glad we have them both.

@Volfan2012 you make good points. I still think Burrell is on another level than Dye.

I would switch Burrell for Dye.

If I were drafting a team from our roster the top 4 would be... Burrell, Key, Dye, Horston.

Any way you divide it up, it's really nice to have all that talent to spread around.

Thanks! Love the discussion about the newcomers. Sounds like she’s very excited about Dye and Puckett in particular. She spoke very highly of Sarah and it sounds like she can shoot it as advertised.

I haven’t seen much of Sarah’s game, but I always thought she’d play about like one of the Samuelson sisters as this level. Let’s hope she can shoot like that!

Based on coach’s address today I believe she will play a larger role than expected. She sounds like a favorite already. She has a high motor and it sounds like a strong work ethic.

This team could be very dangerous. There is a question mark for where Rennia’s production will come from. Sounds as though we may have several options that bring different looks. Makes us much harder to guard. Running Dye and Puckett at the 3 gives two very different looks with what sounds like two very skilled players. We finally have some redundancy in our lineup.

It would be great if she can. I haven't checked but was her regular season numbers significantly different?

In her last year at Troy, before transferring to TN, Alexus led the NCAA in double-doubles with 23 and total rebounds with 352. Alexus averaged 16.6 ppg and 12.6 rpg. If Alexus can come close to replicating those numbers this season, along with Rae and others, look out folks we could have a great season. Can't wait.

Besides the glowing comments about Dye and Puckett, one thing that struck me about Coach Harper in this video is how healthy and relaxed and beautiful she looks. She has always been an attractive woman, but this is the first time since she's been back in Tennessee that she has looked to me like she's totally unstressed. She must really be liking what she's seeing from her new staff and the team so far! :D

Amazing how a combined family household income of 1M per year will do that to a person...

If Puckett can really shoot the ball, there's the other 3 ball shooter (in addition to Rae) we've been looking for.

My takeaway is that this team will play the same style of ball but be a more physical version of last year's team, especially in the paint, and will score more three's.
