Seniors Kevin Burnett and Michael Munoz return for another tour as captains of the Tennessee football team, making them the first Vols since J.G. Lowe in 1924-25 to be elected to the position in consecutive years.
Head coach Phillip Fulmer announced results of the team vote Monday, noting that four seniors and a pair of juniors would be handling captains' duties for the second straight year. Joining Burnett and Munoz are seniors Tony Brown and Jason Respert along with juniors Jason Allen and Parys Haralson.
"I'm very proud of our team for the vote of the 2004 captains," Fulmer said. "These six young men represent great character, work ethic and communication skills. They will be excellent leaders for the 2004 Tennessee football team and excellent examples for our program."
Last year Burnett and Munoz were the first juniors to be named a Tennessee captain since All-America guard Bob Doblestein in 1944. The duo, who have each earned their undergraduate degrees, earned All-Southeastern Conference honors following the Vols' 10-3 2003 season.
Lowe served his two seasons as captain under head coach M.B. Banks, who gave way the following year to a young Capt. Robert R. Neyland just beginning what would become a legendary 21-year coaching career
