I was thinking about the players we've had from NYC: Bernard King, Ernie Grunfeld, Tobias Harris, and now Zakai Zeigler. The first 3 were legends or at least stars who became NBA players (and stars). Zeigler isn't likely to do that, but he's tracking to be an all-time favorite.

Have we had any misses from there? Let's see who we can pull from the Big Apple every year. They may long for some mountain air.

I don’t know if ZZZ is from NYC or the eastern end of Long Island, but... Howard Wood (Southampton/Long Island). Tyrone Beaman (New York state (Niagara)). And Jerry Finestone was a package deal with Ernie.

As the late great John Ward would say............"Wood..........good!" Never will forget the baseline jumper he hit late to beat #1 or #2 Kentucky, I think the season of '80 maybe? Score was 48-44 or 46.

Can't remember Finestone, but it looks like we are doing pretty good with the ones we convince to come down here.

Finestone was a point guard and not a regular in the rotations. He was a very good friend of Ernie. Possibly high school teammates. He might have even been a walk-on.

Aberdeen and Mears used to recruit the northeast very hard for Tennessee.

just like international pipeline Barnes has developed, I think there's opportunity to get more out of NY area for sure. Since ZZ just a frosh, and likely a 3-4 year player, I think he'll get plenty of good exposure for the Vols for a few years.

Why not. When you are really good as he is/will be, why not. (and don't say "he ant tall enough" if he is good enough that won't make any difference)

For what it’s worth, NYC doesn’t have the talent it once had. Most of the NYC based stud basketball players go elsewhere for high school now and mostly to the basketball factories across the country. There are players like Ziegler who slip through the cracks, but it’s not the fertile ground it has been in the past.
