This may have already been posted but as I was watching the game Saturday i noticed every time Connor Shaw went to the line to change the play or something several Vol players would run up to the line and lean in to listen to what he was saying. Then they turned to other defensive players and told them something. Anyone know what they were doing or how they'd know the plays?

I think it had more to do with crowd noise. It's good to have Neyland coming back to the glory days.

CSS said "we got out coached". I think that about sums it up.

Butch Jones did what three prior UT coaches could not. He took lesser talent and beat a better team. That is the epitome of great coaching. He gets it.

If you follow Daj we had slightly better talent. Tifwiw. Point is still the same. Butch not only put out the dumpster fire he repurposed it as a trebuchet.

In one of the post game interviews, one of the players (sorry don't recall who) actually said, we knew what they were going to be running. I got the vibe that he was crediting the DC, as in, he was calling the right defenses.

IMO they were shouting out nonsense to screw up the communication of the calls Shaw was making, not listening in,

I know that CSS loves to try to staunch the flow of questions by giving sharp, short answers like "We got out coached". But you know this time he was right. It terrified me to see him call those timeouts back-to-back. One reason was I thought he might actually go for it...that is terrifying because they stood a good chance of making it. Another reason is that lesser coaches would have folded under the pressure he was putting on them (DD anyone?). But I was shocked, and ever so proud to see Butch not only throw a Defensive package at him, but to throw 2 different ones...each more confounding than the other to CSS...heck he didn't even make an effort to get us to jump off sides. He just saw what Butch did and disgustedly called another TO. Awesome!

During the game the announcers said that you knew that SC was going to run because he would check and change the play and not even communicate with the WR's. It happened so often that it was becoming predictable.

Reminds me of a former basketball coach.

Its common among defenses. If you watched the Broncos vs Colts this weekend ud see the Mike Linebacker (usually the leader of the defense) lean up and listen to what Peyton said. After they hear a call for the first time they pay attenetion to what happens and then from then on once they hear that term again the defense audibles. Its never the same though from game to game because teams would catch on way to fast. Plus if u have a QB like Peyton he'd call something like "Florida" then next time "Spurrier" or "Gator". Same play different name.
