Commitments (at least 1, maybe 2 end up 4-star by final rankings):
Darris Sawtelle, 4-star
Anthony Anderson, 3-star
Todd Campbell, 3-star
Kevin Cooper, 3-star
Tyler Maples, 3-star
BJ Coleman, 3-star

Next In-state commitments:
Chris Donald, 5-star
Harrison Smith, 4-star

Possible In-state commitments:
Rae Sykes, 4-star
Chris Walker, 4-star

At this point in the recruiting season, with our performace last season, I would not call that doom-and-gloom. No 2-stars. No 1-stars. And, even the 3-stars have potential to move up. I say out of Todd Campell, BJ Coleman, and Anthony Anderson at least one ends up as a 4-star. So, my question is if our clas looks like this at the end of July are you guys still going to be griping? (answer is yes because you guys always find something to gripse about)

Chris Donald, 5-star
Harrison Smith, 4-star
Darris Sawtelle, 4-star
Anthony Anderson, 3-star
Todd Campbell, 3-star
Kevin Cooper, 3-star
Tyler Maples, 3-star
BJ Coleman, 3-star

You will hear nothing but praise from me if we land Donald, Smith and Sykes. Sykes looks like a monster.

Lex, have you seen Donald's film? It crushes anything I've seen of Sykes. We won't land Sykes nor do I really want him. He has horrible grades and hasn't recovered from a broken arm that he got during the end of last football season. I wouldn't mind landing Rufus Williams and Tony Tucker at DE though.

Donald is a beast as well. I am concerned about our depth at DE. Will Sykes end up at Hargrave?

Fingers-crossed-- G. Williams will solve some of our depth problem at DE. He is going to be an immediate contributor.

Rick...we need a shot in the arm when I read that Scout expects McGlothlin to be a contributor on the DL. I hope you are right. Nice topic by the way. I appreciate the info.

Sawtelle was a five star, but recently slipped to four. That rating was given by Jamie Newburg I believe.
he slipped to 4 star because he commited early and has no reason to go to any of the combines.

Sykes will be lucky if he goes to Hargrave. I'd say JUCO is his future. Rufus Williams and Tony Tucker will be contributors if we can land them. Chris Walker would likely land at DE as well and we are recruiting a JUCO DE named Coulter right now.

Maybe some will. I've made no secret that I buy into the rating services to some degree and now that they have rated several of our prospects I have no problem giving them their due. Scout has had Todd Campbell at a 3* for awhile though.

You can take comfort in the knowledge that some of the NEGAVOLS on this list will be whining about these same recruits.

Harrison Smith is definitly not a sure commitment for the Vols. Yes he was a Vol fan growing up but his parents want him to go to a academic school which is why stanford is up their but doesnt have good football. Notre Dame has good academics, a catholic school, and good football. That school seems to be the better fit the only thing keeping him at UT is he likes the coaches and is a fan. So he definitly isnt a shoe in vol.

Hmmm, as crazy as some ND fans are, most think that Smith and Donald are UT locks. Smith also recently said that UT led over the other 2. He said his parents want academics but its about the football for him and he wants to play for UT.

i know Harrison Smith, Tennessee and ND are dead even right now though he is more of a fan of UT football his parents are still pushing the academic thing at ND.

I've got a gut feeling that Donald suprises us and goes to ND? before you all freak out, I'm in serious prayer that does not happen, just some nagging suspicions

I hope for your sake that he comes in and reinvents the wheel, wins 5 heismans. 4 natl championships, cures the cancer, and finds jimmy hoffa. Are you tell me good job if he's another Jim Bob Cooter, I dont think they give out an award for holding a clipboard.

we are the only 1-A program that offered him. That should tell you that he was 3 star because we offered him and for no other reason.

I think Marshall is now a 1-A school but that is beside the point. Several other schools were interested but he wanted to come to Tennessee and he didn't keep that a secret. The kid can play.
