Tennessee- Ragin Cajuns in 07

OK, when I said "fun," I was looking at the opponents without regard to to which games were in a row. Yeah, that sounds harsh. At least we don't have Bama's non-conference schedule to sleepwalk through every year.

Yep. Weak non-conf + Miss/Miss St/UK/Vandy = easy bowl game. For most SEC teams.

Once again, hats off to Tennessee :hi: for being the only upper-tier SEC team with balls when it comes to scheduling non-conf foes

Where you getting that "upper tier SEC team" from milo? I'd say we're mid tier right now with SC, Bama and Arky.

Looking at the '06 schedule I think the unbiased consensus can agree that the "upper tier" of the SEC for this year is UF, UGA, AU & LSU. Other than the UF-FSU contest, none of them are taking on any world beaters for ooc play. Moving down a rung are Bama, Arky, SC, and UT. Arky has USC and UT has Cal. I know some people are predicting big things for Clemson so I guess you could throw in the Clemson game for SC there if you want to. Finally, Kentucky has Louisville, MS St has WV and Vandy takes on Michigan. If you take out the annual rivalry games there are really only four SEC teams (UT, AR, MSst and Vandy) taking on ooc teams that could reasonably be exepcted to beat them.

Dude... All I meant by it was this:

Out of all the non-crappy teams in the SEC, Tennessee is the only one with a consistently challening non conference schedule.

That's all it was. No more, no less.

I guess next time you should be more specific  ... ie specifying the number of tiers you base your comments on. :biggrin2: I would assume that you were using the 2-tier scenario, of which UT is definately a part of. However, if others want to add a 3rd tier and move the Vols to the middle, that is their thing. However, I agree with you Milo... in a 2-tier SEC, the Vols are in the upper tier.

How can you even say UT is in the top tier right now?

Top 6 definites-AU, UF, UGA, LSU
Top 6 maybes - SC (beat UT and Arky on the road last year), Bama (beat UT and Arky at home last year), Arky and UT.

Obviously, two of the maybes are going to have to slide into Tier 2. In the rational world we put the teams who beat the others in the higher tier. Sometimes I really don't think it ever fully sunk in with some people just how big a disaster '05 was.

Enough with the tiers :focus:
We are definitely Top 5 in the SEC Eastern Division. I am pretty confident that we will at least be Top 4 in the division at the end of this season. Beyond that it's all wild speculation.

You may be right if you base your logic on only one season. However, programs are built over the long haul. The Vols still have the best winning percentage of ANY SEC team over the last 10 seasons.

I'll eat my words if the Vols finish outside the top 6 teams in the SEC this season.... but odds are, they'll finish at least in the top 4.
