Oct. 29, 2005: For the only time in 114 years of playing varsity football, the Tennessee football team won a game by scoring less than a fieldgoal! Unbelievable as it may seem, the Vols beat the game South Carolina Gamecocks 2-0! Late in the first quarter with the score zero to zero and after the Tennessee offense had already fumbled once and thrown two INT's, Coach Fulmer found the "Majic Dust" and to the delight of defensive coordinator John Chavis, demanded the offense to punt on first down the remainder of the game!
Finally with 18 seconds left in the game, Jason Hall tackled the Gamecock quarterback in the endzone for a safety, much to the delight of 104,000 Vol fans(35,000 had on their Halloween outfits disguised as empty seats). Coach Fulmer and Coach Spurrier, both Tennessee state natives, embraced at midfield and left arm and arm singing the B.B.
King song"The Thrill is Gone".
