This past weekend I was in Texas and was talking with a former Texas player. He had a team ring on that had the power T surrounded by the Texas burnt orange. When I pointed out that the T was the TN power T he got defensive. He said there was only one UT and that was Texas. I pointed out that the Univ. of TN was established 36 years before the state of TX and 89 years before the Univ. of TX. My question is: Isn't the power T a trademark of Univ. of TN? If it isn't it should be.

The Power T is trademarked by the University. What Texas does is slightly change the dimensions so that it technically isn't the same thing. We sold them the UT a long time ago and now they're trying to take the Power T. Even when we're down we are still better then little UT.

Funny how every Texas fan seems to think they came first or are "the real" UT....if it weren't for Volunteers, they'd not have been a state to begin with. But you can't make a rock think, so arguing with them and pointing out facts are pointless. : )>

This is absolutely correct.

We sold the rights to the interlocking UT several years ago, because they got all whiny about it.

That's when we started using the power T exclusively. Theirs is more straight-edged than ours, and clearly different.

If it wasn't for the Volunteers of Tennessee, they'd all still be speaking Spanish and be the University of North Mexico.

I travel to Texas a lot and every time I get into a conversation with someone and they find out I live in TN, they start in on the "real UT" crap. I always say, and I quote.."keep in mind, you guys don't exist if our governor, for which your largest city is named, along with Mr. Crockett and others from TN didn't come down here and show y'all how to fight!" Many don't even realize Sam Houston was governor of TN first before going to Texas. Then I say, "see, you were even uneducated till a Tennessean got here!"

Actually, they can't use or market the UT east of the Mississippi.

We didn't fully sell it. We have rights to its usage east of the MS river, they have rights to its usage west of the river.

The problem is - being a national program now that has to play and be shown across the country in order to even do well - there's no point in using it as the university's logo anymore

Story Summary:

Ran into a sip.
Sip acted like and ass.
Water also still wet.

Grass still green

I think we get one of these "who's the real UT" and "what happened to the interlocking UT logo" threads like 2-3 times an offseason

Texas has a neat idea. They came up with it on their own. They're going to put checkerboards in the endzones!

Texas even does a lame attempt at running through a T formed by the band now.

I went to the WVU/Texas game earlier this year. It was a pretty good experience, but it doesn't even touch a gameday in Knoxville. Also, their cannon they fire off after touchdowns is named Smokey. Can't make this up. The Longhorns desperately want to be Volunteers.

If it wasn' t for the help of some brave Tennessee Volunteers, the State of Texas would never exist! Because of that, there is only one UT and that is the University of Tennessee!!!!!! Texas is an also-ran and that's the way it will always be. GBO!
