Tennessee's Butch Jones: 'We have absolutely zero depth'

"I think the thing right now, in the realities of building our program, is we have absolutely zero depth," Jones said. "That's been extremely evident."

Tennessee's Butch Jones: 'We have absolutely zero depth' | AL.com

i was surprised at this statement by CBJ ,sounds like he is frustrated to the max,he is usually good at the coach speak

I find it very difficult to believe this is what Butch said. Who interviewed him? Why would he say this to AL.com but not anywhere else?

This is trash!!!

They also say that Tennessee is playing 7 rank teams, SOME of which have dropped out. Who is SOME -- Florida?

This article is pure trash!!!

Dooley 2.0

Quit making excuses and motivate the players by something other than different uni's.

Coach up the players and get them to overachieve. Getting smoke checked way past double digit spreads ain't it. NOT IT!

Let me add one other thing: Butch doesn't throw his team under the bus. I do not believe he said this and I hope most of you have enough intelligence and common sense to know better!! But I could be wrong because OBAMA got elected twice.

How many scholarship players were on the roster when Dooley got to UT??..65ish??

So all yall complaining about bad depth that's bad depth. He had a hole to dig out of that was hard to do. He had the NCAA and was on the hot seat real early. So all these excuses and whining really is pointless. The guy is getting pd 3 mil a year and was handed 2 solid QBs that had been on campus to work with a full offseason and he doesn't have enough depth??? Dooley had a true freshman and a JUCO transfer starting the season, a depleted team full of issues. Many had to leave. CBJ doesn't have anything near that.

Oh yeah to yall toughest schedule folks...he had to play OR, Bama, LSU. So hold the guy who is getting pd what...40%+ a year than the guy who actually cleaned up a lot of crap.

You are well beyond ignorant. There isn't even a word for it.

What CBJ has, is a team full of players that aren't SEC caliber, thanks to your favorite coach.

Please stop posting.

I think if I were someone who worked hard every day in practice but had not gotten a chance to show what I could do in a real game situation... I'd feel a little "thrown under the bus" right now.

I especially think if I were Crowder, Kerbyson, Wiesman, Saulsberry... watching the guys in front of me give half effort... that comment would be pretty offensive.

Before you attack... Please tell me this. How many of the guys on the roster who cannot be considered "depth" right now were with the team for spring practice? The summer? If you've had that much time to get a guy ready... why do you have zero depth?
Because you can't make a filet out of a pig. No coach could. Have you considered that CBJ was busy getting the players that could play ready for the toughest schedule in the country?

He has pretty much been saying the same thing all year. Couple of games ago he was naming off how many starters had been playing 70 or so snaps a game. That's why they haven't been going full pads for a while.

If the comment was made it's Bush league and not Butch league IMO. That Mizzou game exposed some cracks in the foundation that i for one thought we had turned the corner on with the team and coaches. Further Butch was also pretty degrading this week in some of the TN tough drills in front of the media. Maybe it works out maybe the guys that matter are all in. IDK. If what started so good after UGA starts to unfold by Vandy though, Sally bar the door. I bet most of you would agree after watching the Mizzou game you have no idea what UT team might show up on a given Saturday.

one thing for people to remember,it is going to be a crap load of freshmen next year and that usually doesn't work good in the SEC

Yes, but they'll be much faster, quicker more talented players than most of what we have now. Plus, current freshmen like Dobbs, North, Vereen, Reeves-Maybin and Sutton will take huge jumps IMO. Not to mention the sophomores like Randolph, Coleman and Pig who will be upperclassmen with tons of experience. I think we're a much better team next year... much better.
