Isn't the basic concept of going back in time before a great cataclysmic extinction event (asteroid seems to be the leading theory at this point) a bit flawed?*

*I haven't seen the show so maybe that's what they had to work with but I'm thinking early Holocene would have made a lot more sense...though not necessarily for a TV show.

I haven't seen a lot of Fringe though it seems to shamelessly work from the "out there" premise from the start. I was under the impression that Terra Nova was trying to keep the premise fairly straight once you accept the whole time travel part. It may actually do a good job of playing it straight but the aforementioned "let's save the human race by going back before something wipes out most of the planet's species" bit was a head-scratcher for me.

Actually I wonder if they'll in fact play a card like that considering the apparent environmental role the humans had in the premise for the exodus.
