Jones left the scene of the accident.

A message from Coach - CoachCal.com

At approximately 2:30 a.m., Stacey Poole and Terrence Jones were involved in a car accident at the corner of Euclid Avenue and High Street. They were struck by a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road. The driver of the oncoming vehicle has been charged by police with driving under the influence.

The occupants of the victims’ vehicle were not charged with any wrongdoing. No evidence of drugs or alcohol was found.

Poole and the driver of the victims’ vehicle were questioned at the scene and taken to the emergency room by ambulance. In fear of an altercation with the driver of the oncoming vehicle, Jones left the scene but was later questioned by police. He arrived at the hospital following questioning and was treated with minor injuries. Both players have since been released from the hospital.

I’m happy to report that nobody in the car was injured. First and foremost, their safety was my biggest concern.

Our players did not break any rules by being out last night. As of yesterday, this team did not have a curfew and our normal procedure is to begin the season without one. I usually let the actions of my team determine a curfew. However, because of the actions of a select few, this team has showed me an inability to make proper judgment and decisions that they’ve been given the freedom to make.

Therefore, going forward, this team will now have a curfew for the rest of the season. I will inform the team of a time later today.

We hold our players to a higher standard at Kentucky. They must learn that they’ve been placed in a leadership role and that every action defines this team, this state and its fans. As always, any additional punishment will be handled within the team.

Wow. That could have been bad. I like the quick stance on the curfew. Like with kids, you will be trusted, until I can't trust you, then you're mine.

It does make me question Jones leaving the scene though. The "altercation" thing could be the issue, but it makes you wonder if there was anything else there.

Cal says T Jones left the scene b/c of fear of an altercation with another driver. So he just left a teammate there alone? Come on, man.

I know why a person might leave the scene of an accident. That's not usually the reason. Very reasonable to be skeptical of that story.

Yes, I always taunt guys who are 6-8/250. RT @UKBrad: @GaryParrishCBS: Can't you realize @ 6-8/250, it makes you a target to get taunted?

So a 6-foot-9, 240-pound guy left the scene of a car accident because he was afraid of the drunk guy who hit him? Hmm.

Alledgedly (and that is the keyword here):

The black SUV that was struck by a drunk driver had 3 occupants. They were Terrence Jones, Stacey Poole and Larry Warren (driver). I have no idea who the vehicle is registered to. Warren was listed as a friend and has no ties to UK Athletics. The drunk driver was stated as being somewhat belligerent at the scene. Terrence Jones left the scene inorder to avoid an altercation with the driver.

Pretty stupid move no matter what the case. Cal I'm sure will handle this behind the scenes as he has done previously. They (Jones and Poole) will suffer his wrath and their punishment in the gym.

Apparently you have no 24 hour Taco Bells near where you live.

Just not a good idea to be out driving that time of night if you can avoid it... Here, 2:30 is when the bars are legally required to stop selling alcohol and shut down, and something like one in three drivers on the road is over the legal limit at that point. Scary stuff.

Agreed...not everyone out at 2:30 is necessarily drunk/high. I can remember plenty of times in college being bored and going to taco bell, or hell even wal-mart to buy a video game or movie, and we weren't always under the influence.

But you're other point is correct too, most are.

20 year olds also apparently do dumb stuff form time to time... Whodat thunk?!

Jones and Poole have some learnin' to do, but I don't see anything sinister here.

Eh. Me either. It's strange he left Poole there when he was scared of an altercation. Whatever, it's not like anything will come of it either way.

From personal experience of being in a car accident and watch the driver take off in a panic, I'd say ole Jones' could have been driving.

UK basketball coach John Calipari later confirmed Terrence Jones was also a passenger in the SUV. According to a post on CoachCal.com, Jones left the scene of the accident fearing a confrontation with Roseberry. He was later located and questioned by the police, then went to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

"The occupants of the victims' vehicle were not charged with any wrongdoing. No evidence of drugs or alcohol was found," Calipari wrote.

But the account on Calipari's web site differs from information obtained by LEX 18, which indicates Jones got in an argument with Roseberry after the crash, then left the scene in another vehicle. Sources say Jones was found at a location along Alexandria Drive and was "slightly under the influence with alcohol." Jones indicated he left the scene, "hoping that Coach Calipari would not find out."

University officials said they have no comment on whether Jones, who is underage, was drinking.

OK, well at least he wasn't driving. My guess is that the others told him to get the hell away before the police arrived and called a friend to come pick him up.

Dodged a bullet this time.

Maybe, maybe not. Wouldn't be shocking if the Warren guy took the fall and will collect his paycheck later. Jones is gonna go pro and this Warren dude will be getting his later if he helped cover up.

Supposedly Jones ran cause he had been drinking and was afraid Cal would find out about it. Not sure what to believe.

Totally wrong. He had to take the weed back to the crib. You can't waste weed by throwing on the road. He had to save the weed.

It's actually a solid plan and well executed.

Reports are also that Jones appeared "slightly" under the influence of alcohol. He freaked out, and seeing as how he is a preseason All American whereas as Poole will receive no playing time this season even if he were dressing, It's not beyond belief that Jones said "Peace, I'm out this beech."
