Terry Bowden To Akron

Not a fan of Bowden, but after getting turned down by a Division II coach and a MAC offensive coordinator, not bad for Akron.

I honestly think Georgia State will put up a better fight than Akron, and GSU's only had a football program for two years.

Georgia State is going to end up as a pretty good FCS team eventually. They have signed a few 3*'s in their first few classes and being right in the middle of downtown Atlanta doesn't hurt.

GSU will not do well IMO. GT will get most of the good athletes in the area if both schools were to offer

Akron is truly awful.

They basically did what Nebraska did 10 years ago...overestimated where they were headed, assumed that the head coach was holding them back, made some grand pronouncement about "not sinking into mediocrity", and replaced him with a pathetic joke of a head coach. Now they're worse off then they were before.

what is the back story to Bowden? Since booted from AU he cannot get a decent HC job. Something has to influence this. Schellenberger type issues? Price type?

Why leave North Alabama where he doesn't have to recruit to go to one of the worst jobs in football?

Same as Fulmer, he's not a "flashy" hire. Kansas hired Charlie Weis because he is the most talked about(for better or worse) coach in college football.

GT and Georgia State probably do not compete for football recruits. GSU probably gets a bunch of guys that don't have the grades for d-1.

None of these. I think most people that work in athletics departments just realize that Bowden is a truly awful coach. His teams have absolutely 0 discipline.

This was UNA's approach, too. And they couldn't win with Bowden as coach even though they had some 4 star talent on the team. Janoris Jenkins went there after he got kicked off UF. :eek:lol:
