"lack of speed, poor fundamentals and overall confusion in last year’s defense,"

Fix this...please.

Ugh I hate hearing that. Dooley always said the same kind of stuff. I understand coach speak but I still hate hearing things like that.

I think it takes a balance and Butch is doing that - praise for good play, effort, and improvement and a dose of reality when talking about the road ahead. Dools was negative on both accounts and it left a cloud of negativity over the whole program.

No crap. I will take Alabama 5 stars and let Butch have them while Saban coaches ours. I believe the results are self explanatory

The biggest difference between CBJ saying this a DD saying this is CBJ actually knows how to fix things. He's a great offensive mind and he knows what it takes to win on defense.

Most of our problems aren't that we lack 5 star players. The problem is our secondary is so slow that CBJ had to go out and recruit in two months some guys with speed just so we don't keep getting burnt deep all the time. Maggit and AJ are also very slow LBs. They are very good LBs, but they are still slow. This is why CBJ preaches conditioning and weight loss. He knows we aren't fast enough to compete with the big boys on defense right now, so he's doing all he can to path this problem up until he can recruit faster players.

I hope we see a few of our players step up over the days leading to the O&W game. For me, I wanna see what Downs, Croom, C. Miller, Brewer, Coleman, and Randolph will do during this time to take us to the next level.

Some of us have said this for a while. Of course we were bashed and called "non true fans" etc.
DD is without question the worst coach in UT history. I'm thankful his tenure of destroying our program is over.

Huh? If I recall correctly, I seem to remember you saying that Dooley was building a dynasty here and that fans were the problem and that we would never find a better coach.

Funny how so many of them have forgotten their unending love of all things Dooley.

I was a Dooley fan during his tenure, too. I still think he did a lot of good things for us, but his coaching philosophy and personality could only take us so far. He was more of an administrator than coach, and now we have what seems like a true football coach.

Some people aren't meant for what comes with being a head coach at a place like UT. Lesson learned for us and Dooley, I believe.

Pardon me for disagreeing with the he did "a lot" of good arguement. The amount of bad he did out weights any little good he did by leaps and bounds. He started a program in the VFL yet he didn't believe in it as evidenced by how he treated former players.

Chief used to have a "recruit down" philosophy. Recruit strong safeties to be OLB'S, recruit OLB's to be MLB's, recruit MLB's to be DE's, recruit DE's to be DT's, recruit DT's to become OG's. And so on and so forth! Chavis always believed that speed and athleticism was more important than size.

Very true! Al Wilson came in as a Strong Safety.

I'm curious to see if Miller, Coleman, and Brewer play to their full potential this year as well.....all have a ton of talent, just waiting for to see it consistently

I remember Jimmy Johnson at the U explaining that back in the 80's. Pretty good way to do things.
