Auburn last yearI mean, it's a really funny-sounding statement, but he might be right.
If Jimbo loses this bowl game, I bet he starts to feel some heat. Not heat in terms of job security, but boosters/admin and such start to try and sink their hooks into him. They aren't paying him $75m guaranteed to win every game he's "supposed to" and lose every game he's "supposed to."
I wonder what the general feeling in Stillwater is about Gundy? It's been a couple years now since they had a really good season, and he's almost a decade removed from those 2010 and 2011 seasons where he flirted with playing for a title.Sounds like he is getting his excuse ready if they lose.
All that tells me is that 2018 Auburn was more inconsistent than 2019 A&M. That Washington team they beat in the season opener was ranked too highly in the preseason and not a great team, despite winning the Pac 12. And it is kind of cancelled out by losing at home to a bad Tennessee team later in the year. And they beat a #6 Washington and #20 Texas A&M. Who has TAMU beaten?

Those team statistical rankings don't mean much in college because of the huge disparity between good teams and bad teams. 2019 A&M was also pretty competitive against 3 of the 5 great teams they played. 2018 Auburn was blown out by 2 of the 3 great teams they played, plus had the loss to Miss St, plus the really ugly loss to Tennessee. 2019 A&M's schedule was definitely more difficult and they didn't lose any games they shouldn't have.Every statistical rating also has last years Auburn team as better than this years Texas A&M team

I'll just leave this little gem here
Gundy: A&M is'bestmost expensive 7-5 team in the history of the NCAA'
