So during a recent move etc...I have been out of the loop and I did not ever hear why The Big 12 was breaking up (or at least some of it)...All I saw was (as of yesterday) that Texas A&M was going to the SEC.....What started this whole thing?

Well, some of it already has. Big 10 wanted to expand. Lots of rumors and speculation swirled. Nebraska left for the Big 10 (which now has 12 teams). Pac-10, not wanting to be left out, added Colorado, which is not a big surprise because many have said for years that Colorado is a better fit there anyway. The remaining schools in the Big 12 have banded together as a 10 team conference. So the Pac 10 now has 11 teams, the Big 10 has 12, and the Big 12 has 10.

Oh, and Boise St moved from the WAC to the Mountain West. That's all that happened. The rest (other moves to the Pac10 or SEC) were just negotiating and more speculation.

However, look for the Pac 10 to add one more so that they can have a championship game. Many think that Utah will be a target. I can think of few less exciting additions.

Remember that Nebraska doesn't actually begin play in the Big 10 until 2011 and Colorado doesn't start in the Pac 10 until 2012. Boise St will begin play in the MW in 2011.

It all started with conference expansion talks. The Big 12 was thought to be dissolving pretty much and A&M to the SEC was a possibility....but now that the Big 12 is staying around A&M isn't going anywhere

By "loop", did you mean orbital path around sun?

Well, let's see. First the earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't believe it.

The whole thing started because Utexas has been raping the other teams in the conference since it's inception. They came up with a way of splitting TV revenue by which you were paid by the amount of appearances on TV. Nebraska had had enough as had Missouri, who were in talks with the BIG 10. The Big 10 wanted Texas, but Texas, " Didn't want to be the southern border of the BIG 10"... because look at the travel to those away games...lol...or... (my words here) they didn't want to be in a conference where they might have to play Ohio St., Michigan, Penn St. etc... and mostly they(Brown and Stoops) don't want a championship game.

Nebraska left, they fit well with the BIG 10, member of the AAU and all. Missouri get's no invite from the BIG 10, in other words, stranded. That's how it started in a nut shell.

Maybe it's that I have come to understand the true frustration of Aggies, whether it was the hiring of Kiffin, the way he left, the lack of a buy out, sodexo...I've felt the same way this guy feels over the last two years. Can't post it here, you'll have to go there.

Thanks man...thats what I was looking for right there...makes sense...although it wasnt all that long ago...that Nebraska was raping everyone....

For me the thought of Texas A&M being in the SEC and showing up in Knoxville every year...or something like that just made no sense...talk about getting raped....Having to play TN, FL, AL, GA, LSU, etc...you would think would be very un-appealing....Texas on the other hand I doubt wanted a piece of that pie either......I am from Knoxville originally and live in Houston Tx now...I can tell you that EVERY Aggie fan down here (and there are alot) wanted to go to the SEC...there was local talk yesterday that Texas might go to the SEC...their fans diddnt want any part of the SEC...a couple of them that I work with were scared of the competition level week in and week out in the SEC...

Yeah, I've spent a lot of time on TAMU, OU and the Whorns boards the last week or so. I would say that 90+% wanted to come to the SEC. Once the deal to stay in the Big 12 happened, I think it looks like 99%. They are really upset. (See my 12:26 AM post, check out the link)

Spending time on the sips board made me ill. That's an arrogant bunch if you ask me, but since you live in Houston you might no better. As you said, they want no part of the SEC, of course their version is that SEC fans live in trailer parks, our Universities are second rate, yadda, yadda...

OU fans seemed split pretty evenly, but seem just fine now that they THINK they'll be getting an even split.

I know the powers that be would want Texs*&ks and OU, but I'd be happy with the Aggies and OU. Let the whorns go to the PAC.

Jimmy hyams started this. He said earlier this week that the SEC was going to expand to 12 teams and have a conference championship game to be played in Birmingham..
