If we want a top seed in March it looks like we really need this game against Texas because without it, next week we could be winless against the top 25. Don't be shocked if Kansas goes 0 for 3 this week (5 losses in a row) and slides right out of the rankings. IF that were to happen and IF we were to drop one this weekend to Texas, what is our best win? Probably still Kansas as our next highest ranked beaten opponent per NET would be Maryland at 45, which is close to where Kansas might find itself at the end of the week. Obviously we would still have big games in conference to build a resume but the out of conference wins are crucial when it comes time for the committee to rank teams.
Obviously a negative thread. Not trying to be a downer, just bored on night shift after watching KU lose it's third in a row with Kentucky and Kstate still to go this week.

Kansas and K State don’t play until next week. Hard to image a scenario where Kansas isn’t ranked next week. Even if they do drop 5-6 in a row, their schedule is back loaded with easy wins. They’ll finish comfortably in the top 25. As for us, there are plenty of chances ahead to pad our resume.

Yep misread that as them playing Kstate on Saturday.

But they could easily get beat in any or all of their next 4. Hard to see a 7 loss streak not drop them out of the rankings. Currently no teams in top 25 with more than 5 losses, and only 3 with 5.

We are number 4 in the nation. As long as win the games we are suppose to win we are good as gold. The TN/Bama could potentially determine the #1 team

Tennessee has the game vs Texas they also have the games vs Alabama, vs Auburn, At KY and at Auburn and probably the game At A&M

Lots of chances for Tennessee to pick up some really good wins.

The schedule is about to get much tougher but the team controls its destiny and will have enough chances to beat good teams to get a #1 seed. If they do remains to be seen.

The good thing about losing to Colorado and KY at home is that although TN is solidly in the top 5 and has a shot at a #1 seed, those losses stung and might keep them laser focused. They were humbled and should understand that they can’t take any opponent for granted. Winning out is still a possibility, but I’d be thrilled with no more than 2 or 3 more losses in the regular season.

Oh, I think those two losses definitely stung them. It’s similar to a scenario where an undefeated team enters the NCAA tourney vs. a 2-loss team that has been upset. Almost more advantageous to have those two humbling losses.

Barnes would never say this but I bet that he would really get a lot of satisfaction out of beating Texas on Saturday night.
