Texas Tech QB stats today

Tech's always been pass heavy though, no?

I seem to recall Graham Harrell (and others) putting up tons of passing numbers because they threw so much

hell of a completion percentage though, even if they were playing a team like New Mexico

Don't all their starting QBs throw for like 6,000 yards a season? It's like a Texas Tech tradition.

and then go to the CFL for a few years, i think harrell is 3rd string for green bay now? lol

Exactly. It really translate to nothing. TTU is like 90% pass, 10% run team. I find it funny how NFL teams always draft their QBs yet find out they suck and were just a part of a pass-happy system.

TT's offense is predicated on WR screens and short throws. Harrell was a good QB, but it helps when you have a beast like Crabtree who can get those yards after the catch.

Really? I think only like 2 got drafted and late at that

Kliff Kingsbury was a 6th round pick (late in the round) and B.J. Symons was a 7th round pick (pretty much end of the round)

But Sonny Cumbie, Cody Hodges, Graham Harrell, Taylor Potts....they all went undrafted

If I was a top HS wide-receiver I'd wanna go to TTU. Your stats would be off the charts every year, or at least the potential to be very high if your a high-caliber player.

I thought Harrell was drafted late. Oh well. I was semi-exaggerating anyway.

nope, undrafted. but yeah, if anything the NFL seems to recognize "these guys only put up big numbers due to their systems" and avoids them more than anything

a bunch seem to have gotten chances as UDFA but (other than Harrell as a backup) none of them have really ever seemed to last more than a season (or two...some less than 1)

his predecessor too

Look up Timmy Chang's college career, believe he set some records

Chang had 1,388 of 2,436 completions, 17,072 total yards passing, and 117 total touchdowns at Hawaii. Currently 1st in all three categories. Insane stats.

Brees is probably the only example of a guy who played in a "system offense" to be drafted high and have a good career. Recently, anyway.

I remember when he was with San Diego and had that bad shoulder injury. The rehab was supposed to be really intense and the doctors weren't sure if he'd ever return back to playing 100%. New Orleans decided to give him a chance and now he's considered by many to be a top 5 QB in the NFL. IMO I don't think he's as good as people say. He's way too trigger-happy/makes dumb decisions.

think - though uncertain - might also hold the record for INTs....which really reinforces just how much they threw the ball

Yep, and both Chang and Brennan didn't have much in the way of pro careers.

Chang is retired after getting a cup of coffee in the NFL and bounced around the CFL a bit.

Brennan was 3rd string for the Redskins for a few years then tried to play in the UFL this year but his team folded and no other team signed him.

Cincinnati got burned when they drafted David Klingler sixth. I can't recall very many teams making that mistake since.

Throw Andre Ware in there too then. Seems like they mirror each other a bit

(actually I was told Ware's pro career made the heisman reevaluate and change its voting methods, and who and what teams they considered....supposedly they were embarrassed how he turned out after the award or something)
