Deshaun Thomas, the #1 player in the class of 2010, committed to Ohio State. The Buckeyes are on one of the best recruiting runs I've ever seen.

What can I say? The guy may be the best recruiter in all of sports. Urban Meyer and Pete Carroll are tough, but Matta is something else.

He is benefitting from a nice run of talent in Ohio and the midwest. Most of these recruits are from a four hour or less drive from Columbus.

That's insane. Kids born in the 90s are now being recruited/are committing to schools. For the first time in my life, I feel old.

The number 1 sophomore huh? I'd wait a little before signing a 16 year old.

You can no longer wait with these players. If you jump in late you usually miss, and if you aren't on the AAU scene, you are generally sunk. There are relics like Tubby Smith who can have some measure of success without kissing up to the AAU coaches, but they are few and far between.

He has pretty much annexed Indiana. Now he just has to move south and take Kentucky and he will have one big tri-state.

It may shock a few people, but there is not an abundance of highschool basketball talent in Kentucky.

Wasn't LeBron going to OSU if he hadn't turned pro (not that that was ever going to happen, but anyway - shows how much talent Matta is pulling in).

Recruiting runs like this are so rare, it just makes me wonder if something fishy is going on in Columbus.

There is this year, although I will it admit it is the exception to the trend. There are usually a handful of players from the state that range somewhere between "project" and "solid prospect," but '08 should give us 3 in the top 50.

Hopefully Thad Matta is off to the pros soon.. It's only a matter of time before he creates something special there..

Just think if his freshmen this year had stayed 2-3 years.

Yea Ohio St. has nothing that special goin on there for so many high rated recruits to be commiting there... maybe part of Matta's recruiting process involves a purchase of some sort for the recruit :glare:

Last time I can remember recruiting this rediculous was the (maybe with Duke in the Battier, Boozer stage), but mostly the fab five. I think we all remember how that worked out...

That is because he lives in Ohio. I'm not even sure Matta was there then.
