Not complaining about stopping piracy, but giving the gov't the wide sweeping jurisdiction granted by the Patriot Act is pretty sad. Basically it's free reign to enforce what they choose in the name of fighting terror.

I was a little shocked to see Obama sign a extension to it myself but eh, not really.

I was a little pissed off, but he said he would do it when he was running for election so I couldn't complain. The Patriot Act is bullcrap, though. Same with the proposed net neutrality bills and emergency internet shutdown.

Halt Citizen!!

"There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time. But at any rate they could plug in your wire whenever they wanted to. You had to live—did live, from habit that became instinct—in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized."

If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—forever.

you should be glad the gop is trying to scrap the net bill. hussein would never get rid of the patriot act, it will allow him to control this country more.

you should be happy, that's why you voted for him, government control. you can't have it both ways tile. you can't vote for a socialist and expect his government not to control you.

Parsons was Winston's fellow employee at the Ministry of Truth. He was a fattish but active man of paralyzing stupidity, a mass of imbecile enthusiasms-one of those completely unquestioning, devoted drudges on whom, more even than on the thought police, the stability of the Party depended

And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed-if all records told the same tale-then the lie passed into history and became truth. 'Who controls the past' ran the Party slogan, 'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.

Patriot Act, No Child Left Behind, etc. Vonnegut was a genious. While mainly assailing communism, as I took it based on the time period written, his short story" Harrison Bergeron" is what we are headed for if we are not careful. Wonder who will be the secretary of the new Cabinet position of Handicapper General?
