Your coaching skills advanced us to the elite 8.:clapping:
Should have packed your defense into the paint.:)

Dont think OSU had the size to compete with us in the paint. He had the right style of defense called for us..... we just wore them down.

I disagree, he had their center defender around the 3 point lane which opened up the middle/paint. If they would have packed it into the paint and made us shoot more outside shots they might have won the game.

Why play the "what if" game when we just made history?? Who cares about what Ohio State didnt do, enjoy the win.

It's hard to pack the lane with a 4 guard lineup, they tried to an extent, but we moved the ball extremely well on offensive, our passing in the paint was phenomenal, they tried doubling and tripling down on our big men, or our penetration, but we continued to find the open man cutting to the bucket

It would be more Thanks Matta for not developing any depth all year long!

Yeah I still don't get why he didn't play Simmons in the 2nd half after he hit 3/4 3's. I'd fault him for the frontcourt depth but OSU's had freshman centers declare for the draft 3 straight years and could have another after next season.

Chism's ability to hit the three kept Matta from packing the paint. Chism would drift outside, draw the OSU big man out, then cut back inside and beat the defender to the paint. It was particularly effective when Williams was on the court with Chism. Other times, Chism would drift outside and stay, clearing the lane for a Prince or Maze drive while Williams followed for a put-back.

It wasn't so much poor coaching by Matta... It was more about great coaching on the part of Pearl. The Buckeyes had absolutely no answer for Bruce's scheme and it's a wonder the game was still tight at the end.

Bruce will have a tougher chore with MSU. They have two quality bigs and they play them at the same time for long stretches. UT's guard play will be more critical against MSU, because the inside game will be a wash, at best.

They ran what is called a high 1-3-1, which is designed to put pressure on the ball to create long passes and steals. However, if you can penetrate the top or get the ball down on the baseline it is bad news for that defense. I think you are right though, a classic 2-3 zone may have been a better option. Also, most teams that run that type of 1-3-1 only do so briefly to throw teams off and OSU may have ran it too much.
