That's racist!

Wouldn't shutting up and falling in line be a p**** thing to do also?

I see your perspective.

Though I find it hard to sympathize with kids that bite the hand that feeds them.

Who will blink first, the Uni's who cash in - or the athletes who would be otherwise flipping burgers?

Yeah, and then the generatiom before that gave kids an elixir of ammonia, opium, and alcohol to put them to sleep.

I have ADHD. You're FoS.

Nope. Hyperactive kids ARE normal, problem is adults don't want to deal with them and want to be absolved for being lazy parents/teachers.

The young man we adopted at age 10 was pumped so full of ADHD drugs that his brain could not function. We got him out of public schools, which is why he was put on the drugs in the first place, and now he is doing well. Still makes some stupid decisions as all kids do, but leaves for basic in Grand Lakes on Monday.
ADHD might be needed in some cases, but in most it is just a crutch.

Very admirable.

That sounds like a ghetto roofie.

You're thinking too small. There's better points to be made about how ****ty standardized education is.

My parents were anything but lazy. They did everything to channel my hyperactivity at home. The problem with public schools is that they want to do the opposite of that.

No argument from me on public schools. Our sons 2nd or 3rd grade teacher wanted to put him on ADHD meds, scared us to death so I started doing some research. Turns out every kid in his class minus him and 1 more was on ADHD meds. So I not so politely told the teacher and principle where they could stick those drugs. Ended up in a big fight that almost went to court.

Parents give their kids amphetamines. I wrote an essay years back that highlighted the correlation between childhood ADHD medication and liklihood of cocaine addiction in their 20's. Some of the numbers would rock your world.

Elaborate please? In what form?

Most of those ADHD drugs are uppers. They have nearly identical physiological effects one would experience on speed.

Gotcha. Yeah, I could see a correlation from spending your youth taking uppers then getting hooked on blow.

If the kid needs it the parent isn't fit to raise children. we made it however many generations before this was ever needed.

There are a lot of "good" parents that wish they put their kid on a leash.

It's a lazy way to keep track of a kid but very effective.

I'm guessing you have never parented a child with ADHD.

I habitually ran/snuck off when I was wee. They lost me at Disney World for 2 hours, haha.

so you were a little kid. its the Michael Douglas excuse. "I am addicted to sex" no. you just cant control yourself. every guy/kid goes through the same things (depending on the issue).

I had problems concentrating in class, couldn't focus on school work or playing an instrument.

I am the same age, I grew up with people who have/had ADHD. they could focus on plenty of things when they put their mind too it. funny enough that is how the real world works too.

my parents probably did too. until I got out of the house and am able to function as a normal person.now we are all thankful for how I am raised and I wouldn't change the literal rod for a leash.

I hated my parents for how they raised me. until I started seeing friends fall off the proverbial wagon. now it all makes sense. if it is easy it is probably not the right thing to do.

also it does not keep track of your kid, it just keeps them in a defined area. which one could do if you paid attention. how do i know that? because that is how all of us were raised.

There's "having problems concentrating in class," and then there's ADHD. Don't tell me that it has anything to do with effort and focus. Sure, the prescribed drugs helped, but the side effects sucked.

Still deal with it, at the age of 27. It's great and utilized in certain situations (sometimes at work it's good for me to incrementally focus on a dozen things all at once), but it's still immensely difficult to hold a one-on-one conversation because I almost instantly think of something else as soon as I break eye contact.

hog88,

I'm right there with you. When my son was in the 5th or 6rh grade the school tried the ADHD crap. Give me a break! The kid was lazy!!!!!!!!!

I agree there are some serious cases of ADHD but many times ADHD can be boiled down to Adults Do Hate Discipline.
