watching the opening of the PennState Nebraska game. It is very emotional, and the gathering of the players to pray is just a phenomenal sight

I can't think of a better way to handle the situation then what they did right there. That was pretty awesome.

Good for them. Through God all things are possible. Even healing this tragedy over time. It's funny how society removes God until we have a tragedy. Like the old saying, "there are no atheists on a battle field". For the political correct liberal that booed...that was a perfect time for you to go get a hot dog you schmuck!

It was a very moving moment, but I couldn't help thinking that there were still several pedophile enablers in that group prayer. I can't judge the sincerity of their prayers, but it still stuck out in my mind.

Wonderful quote about Gods place in society. We should change that. Moving scene for sure!!

I still think the best scene would have been for PSU to cancel the remainder of the season. You can say its not fair all you want, it would have been the classiest move. Carrying on with a football game after a cheating scandal is one thing, after a program enables and covers up the forcible rape of children in their facilities carring on a football game to me shows the same mindset it took to allow this to continue happening in the first place. At least that's my 2 cents. I saw the prayer but find very little comfort in it and in no way does it change my opinion about what is right and wrong.

The very fact that they took the field sickens me whether they prayed or not. Prayer is just words. I wonder how many of those little boys prayed the entire time the coach was anally raping them?

I agree with this. Joe Pa was all about god and prayer also, and I would bet Sandusky was/is as well. Just because you pray doesn't mean anything.

Does playing football cause children to be raped?

Way off base dude...

This has NOTHING to do with those players....NOTHING.

Anybody and everybody that had knowledge of the situation should never see the light of day again....but these kids on the team don't deserve to have their season ended because of it.

Makes me wonder what would have to happen for the importance of a football game to not override it. Serial murder?

Oh thats right, they said a prayer in arguably bad taste and not its alllll better. Gimme a break, what went on and is probably still going on there is a level of corruption usually reserved for our federal government.

No playing football didnt cause it, but not playing football could have sent a message. The only message being sent now is football is more important than protecting children and no stupid prayer is going to negate the facts.

So, you want some empty gesture that does nothing to keep anyone safe but demonstrates some sense of shame?

Players pay for a coaches transgressions all the time when it comes to cheating and recruiting violations. I guess institutionally supported child rape is not as important as those other more serious violations.

Better than a prayer that means squat. It would have shown class.

A football team sending a message that the game is secondary to something like this could help keep people safe. Hell if not for the MASSIVE public outcry Paterno would be on the sidelines today.

I think the message was sent by the students who gathered last night. I think the fans who attended today and wore the ribbon. I think the message was sent by the players, coaches, and fans who prayed today.

Some people just refuse to hear the message.

On the same level as a prayer that does not mean anything.

Im not trying to be hateful toward any of you, I am outraged about this incident and amazed that football can even be a small focus until the true depths of the corruption and cover ups there are exposed. Please do not be hateful toward me personally because this is my opinion.

So would ending the season for 100 kids that had nothing to do with it end your outrage?

It would do nothing to satisfy mine.

Not sure it would end it. I am amazed I am alone on this, I have heard dozens of similar opinions from people I know and co workers. No it would suck for the players and not totally fair. My point is the players are affected for far inferior coaching transgressions much worse than here. Like I said, PSU only did what was right because of the public outcry. Paterno would have finished the season without him. Now the little red headed pervert only is put on leave yesterday, paid leave, that watched a man anally rape a child, and only after public threats were made. Absent the public outcry no one but Sandusky would be out at Penn State. They arent trying to do whats right, they are doing what the public is forcing them to do.

This is by far the most horrific thing to EVER come out of NCAA football. Advertisers have pulled their money from ESPN for the next 2 weeks because they are televising the PSU games. I am not alone in the feeling that taking the field is classless, TV coverage of the game is classless, and the prayer was classless, empty, and self serving.

Yes, I agree 100%. A very sensible post. Quite rare for the football forum.

So penalize the players when they did nothing wrong?

Football is their medicine and healing right now.
