Just a week away now!

The last time at The Black was one of my all time favorite Opens. With the infusion of new talent that rose up in Tiger's absence, this 2009 version should be every bit as good...

Reminder, Mickelson presser is today at 1Eastern on GC..

I'm not going to lie, the only reason I remotely pay any attention to golf is because of Eldrick.

Thats Driver/3 iron for most. Maybe hybrid on 2nd shot for a lesser player on the tour. The field has caught Tiger in length of drive. There are far more in the bombers class today than when he first started.

Well said Bill. After further review, #4 will be where I would post up shop if had tickets. That little gem will be a round killer on the front nine. Par 5, 517 yards, more bunkers than Omaha beach, trouble right most of the way down, and a green the size of a VW bug. Those guys better bruch up on their sandwedge.

The groove changes next year are going to change that some.

Nobody is talking about it much, but the groove change is going to change a lot of things. It will be interesting to see how much "bomb and gouge" still goes on.

It will have to stop some and the bombers will pay for the recklessness. It will make more courses play like Opens for guys like Tiger and Phil.

would you two care to elaborate on this? i've only heard a bit about it, and i'd like to know more.

i'm not BPV or GA, but basically on all irons and wedges from the 5 iron down, the USGA has decided the grooves on the clubface are too wide and are making revisions to make them smaller. Pros and all clubs made after this year will have to conform to the rules. For amateur tours, the rule doesn't take effect until 2014 and, not that it matters, recreational golfers like you and I don't have to conform to those rules until 2020-something.

The grooves on most irons are square shaped. After this year the PGA Tour has mandated that players use grooves that are the old "V" shape. More or less what it means is that players aren't going to be able to generate as many RPMs and spin the ball as much. Where it's really going to have an affect is from the rough. You'll see a lot more balls bouncing over greens and you'll see a lot more guys catching "fliers" from the rough especially when it's wet.

much more eloquently than I put it, but while they call it going from a "U-shape" to a "V-shape", it doesn't really look like a V, so I was afraid to say that.

Okay lets get it on the record, who is everybody taking ? the smart money is on Tiger or maybe even Phil but I'm going another direction.

I'm going with Steve Stricker, I like his game, he's playing well and I just think he rolls the ball too well not to win a major before he's done. I also like the chances of Jim Furyk and would love to see Kenny Perry win it.

Big Ben shot an 81 in The Challenge at Beth Page...

Beating Jordan and Justin Timberlake.

"In fact, all three celebs not only broke 100, but broke 90: Jordan shot 86 and Timberlake 88."
