the 13 bowl games that America could frankly do without

The pairings are also finalized for the BS bowls, those extraneous postseason games that feature the also-rans and leftovers. These games pay out well under $1 million, chump change in college sports today. (Write your own SEC recruiting joke here.)

yeah, there are too many bowls...no argument there....a lot of those bowls operate at a loss, and will continue to do so....fans, esp. from BCS conferences aren't going to travel to these locations on a regular basis....who are they good for? MAC and CUSA teams...but all the BCS conf. schools, well, i can tell you this, i wouldn't drive, fly or pay for a hotel in Shrevport, Nashville, Seatttle or wherever to see one of these bolw games....

All this said, I still say have as many bowl games as possible. I'd like to see every team in the country with a winning record play in a bowl game.

I agree Milo . . . If we're going to have bowl games, let's have a ton of them.

yeah, but at some point, it gets redundant....as it stands right now, there are what almost 30 bowls? that's almost 60 teams...so half of D1 teams play in a bowl each year...that's too many, way too many.

Nobody cares about hte poinsetia bowl, or the muffler bowl or the computer bowl etc....except the teams playing in 'em.

Plus, to me, the BCS has ruined the bowl system any way....if your not in a bcs game, then who cares? add to the mix that oh by the way, your "accomplishment" is duplicated by 50 other teams....what you did this year wasn't that special so enjoy your trip to El Paso, or wherever...

The number of bowl games available combined with the BCS has devalued the bowl game in general. Ask Oregon how fired up they are about the HOliday Bowl? Or Cal last year? Us in the two Peach bowls?

like i said, the MAC teams and C USA teams that can't get to some of the bigger bowls, then great, these actually ARE a reward for them, and they should be recognized, but to put a 10-1 Oregon team in the Holiday bowl is kind of ridiculous....

Yeah . . . but that's never been the point. Most of these games have no goal other than to sell TV rights, rake in sponsor dollars and donate a little money to charity. What's wrong with that?

nothing really, i guess i'm just more of a traditionalist...i remember when just going to a bowl MEANT something...now everyteam with .500 record or better gets in...look at some of the teams that are playing in bolw games this year....there are some really bad teams out there....

I'm just saying that the BCS and the increasing number of bowls has devalued what used to be a great honor.

And as for TV rights....how much of an audience do these Pre Christmas games get anyway? A lot of these bows and sponsors lose money right away, that's why the bowls have new sponsors every year....

Nothing wrong in general with the bowl games, i'm sure the teams that are playing in them are happy to be there and deserve it on some level, but 58 of 117 D1 teams play in bowls.....that's just too many.

Perspective: If we would have beat Vandy we would of been in one of those.
yep, and i would have been happy about it...don't get me wrong, but did we "deserve" to go to a bowl? debatable, but who's gonna argue with an invite? not me.

Unfortunately the Pac-10's bowl agreements aren't very good. But the Holiday Bowl is not bad, I think the tie-ins are the Pac-10 #2 and the Big 12 #3. It's just that the Big 12 stunk it up this year. For this year's game specifically, not many people seem to notice that Oklahoma quietly snuck back into the top 25.

I like it for the point you get to see alot of teams and players you would normaly never get to see. It's always cool to watch some of the lesser known stars and teams.

I see they include the Music City Bowl. Ouch!

Before the teams were selected last month, the MCB was offering upper-deck-corner tix for $10 each but they only sell their tix through T'Master. TM was tacking on another $6 PER TICKET plus a $2.50 order fee. Now their cheap seats are $15 but still with the $6 per-ticket fee and the order fee. For that ticket price, the fees seem a little high.

And the award for Worst Bowl Name goes to:

That's only because Poulan-Weedeater stopped sponsoring the Independance Bowl (which, by the way, I don't know how you can leave off the list if you are going to include the Music City.)

Bowls are fine the way they are...if they got rid of 12 bowls...people would be crying every holiday season about how there aren't enough bowls.

Don't like them? Don't watch them....then the bowls will go out of business and you will get your wish
