Heyward will get a ton of votes, he is the flavor of the month.

I think it is only a matter of time before he hits the "wall" so to speak.

This isn't the appropriate thread, but I'm waiting for Matt Capps to fall on his face. Maybe more than anything else in MLB so far. Halladay is starting the game and winning the Cy Young. That discussion is over.

More importantly (and on topic), with Halladay, Lincecum, Santana, Cain, Wainwright, Carpenter, Hanson, Jurrjens, Josh Johnson, Broxton, Wagner, K-Rod..etc. The NL actually has the horses to win for a change. I know all of those starters won't be in and some scrub relievers will make the squad, but if they don't win it this year, geez.

Well, Charlie Manuel will be back for his second go around as NL manager.

The DH will be part of the NL starting lineup when an NL park hosts an all-star game.

OTHERS TO TAKE IN EFFECT STARTING THIS MIDSUMMER CLASSIC:
• No pitcher who competes for his team on the previous Sunday will be allowed to pitch in the game.

• Rosters have been increased to 34 players, by one slot designated for a position player.

• A rule will allow one position player re-entry into the game if necessitated by injury.

Early voting has Twins catcher Joe Mauer as the AL top vote getter.

At this point, Joey Votto is having a better season than Albert Pujols in nearly every statistical category. Just sayin...

By seasons end he won't...Votto is a nice player but Albert is hands down the best player in the game.

I think Albert is the best, I don't think the gap is a big as people make it out to be. Mauer, Morneau, Ramirez, etc. are all awfully damn good.

Votto should certainly be an All Star as of this moment though.

Ubaldo Jimenez...how do you leave him out?

The Captain Derek Jeter.

Its a contract year, and he's playing like it even though he doesnt need to worry about it.

It's bound to happen when you're 36 and still trying to play SS everyday.

votto certainly deserves to be considered amaingst the top 1st baseman in the nl. that being said he is playing better than prince and howard. pujols will be an automatic for the rest of his career sadly, but votto deserves some freaking recognition already. enough is enough. votto is for real. hell, rolen even deserves some props this year compared to other guys. enough with the small market haters in the voting.

and votto is left out. that truly confuses me to no end. the fact that he is leading pretty much all categories over pujols, howard, and adrian and still doesn't make it is just sickening. i really hate the fan vote for reasons such as this. just a pathetic popularity contest. i hope he wins the mvp this year.

vote for Votto at Reds.com. Anyone else that loves baseball should do the same. He is the biggest snub this year by a longshot.

You can blame the fans for Votto missing out on one spot, but the other two were determined by his fellow players and Charlie Manuel.

I voted 25 times for Wagner. I care about getting home field. Votto won't help anymore than Pujols, Gonzo, etc. Wagner is 10x better than Matt Capps.

Doesn't deserve it more than Votto though. I would like to see NL homefield, but I would rather see the most deserving players in. And I am a Reds fan.

that is exactly what i am doing. i am blaming the fans for this popularity voting method, rather than voting the best to play. i am a reds fan and i did not vote with a bias mentality and i am glad to say so. but i find it hard to believe that even the rest of the players would snub votto on the type year he is having. i don't know exactly how all the voting works, but i have figured out that if your on of the best you won't make the team.

not to sound like a reds homer, but there is no reason in my mind that brandon phillips should have been named as the starter even if utley was not hurt. the best gloving second baseman out there and his bat has been on fire for months.
