I’m assuming Dallas, Rucker, Ferguson, and Pavolony go pro. Spence, Russell, and Heflin are seniors.

Tidwell is the Friday starter. Cam Sewell will have a good shot at a weekend spot. Could Jason Rackers get the other spot? McLaughlin? Who else?

As for position players, Gilbert and Beck should be bonafide stars next year. Steenstra and Booker are probably starters. Lipscious comes back.

Who else fills out the starting lineup?

Do you think Leath will come back? He can, right?

When it was announced that he was gone for the year, it seemed like most felt his UT career was done and he’d go pro. But I believe he can come back if he chooses. That would be huge.

A weekend trifecta of Leath, Tidwell, and Joyce would be formidable.

We have a pretty elite recruiting class coming in. I don't follow baseball recruiting as much as I do basketball, how likely is it some of them start? Or do they need a year of seasoning?

I know Brady House would be a Day 1 starter if he came, but not counting him. He is a consensus Top-10 pick in July so it would take a festivus miracle for him to come here. He'd be a program changing player though.

the vast majority of freshmen do need a year of seasoning however the special ones, like Dylan Crews from LSU (and a few others), do not.......

just a hunch, you may see a slew of transfers competing for the 2022 starting line-up and pitching rotation.......
Y’know OldTimer, I hadn’t even considered the transfer portal in baseball! You may be on to something as Coach V may have kids lining up to play for him.
GBO!!

I wouldn’t expect Burns to make it to Knoxville either. Might be a top 5 pick.

I actually think he will be in Knoxville. Just my gut. I dont think he is a top 5 pick. High pick, but not top 5. Just my opinion

I know some baseball people who think he could be. Regardless, even if he’s first round, he’s going pro. Probably if he’s top 3 rounds. I don’t see any way he ends up in Knoxville.

You’re probably right. Wishful thinking on my part. Just my gut feel. He’s a good kid so I hope things work out either way.

Transfer portal will be insane this year. Almost all teams are carrying rosters well above the 35 limit. With the new "1 free transfer" rule also, that thing will have thousands of names in it.

Don't forget Juco guys. Unlike other sports, the Juco route is to get a shot at getting drafted every year. After a year of competition and not improving their draft status too much, these guys are ripe for the picking as well.

What is everyone's thoughts on the 4th year seniors such as Hundley , Spence and Russell? Will any of them be back again next year? I think they all have another year.

Guess it depends on what pro opportunity they get this summer. CTV would take all of them back I’m sure if that’s how it shakes out.

I think Walsh and Leath are back. Hunley is gone whether pro ball or life. Spence and Russell if they go high enough are gone. The draft situation makes it interesting as to whether guys just want to go on and take a chance or hope that one more year makes a difference. I also think how far we go in playoffs will dictate for some. Chase the championship or move on with life.

I think Walsh is a 5th year senior.
