Just be glad you're not running Campy 11 speed, Red, Dura-Ace, or Dura-Ace 11 speed... a replacement cassette for those is astronomical. A 105 cassette is still MSRP $100. Replacing a chain when it's needed makes a huge difference.

Yeah, for my economics, it's crazy paying an extra $125+ to save 40 grams.

You can get Ultegra for about $73 with shipping. Maybe a little less if you're patient shopping.

If you're not racing, there's no need to run anything higher than a 105 cassette. In fact, anything higher just wears out even quicker. Same goes for chains. 105 or SRAM PC-1031. The higher you go, the lighter the weight and quicker they stretch.

You don't think Ultegra is worth $20 extra dollars? I'm not much of a weightweenie, but I that premium didn't seem too bad (at least in comparison to Dura Ace).

I've read that Dura Ace wears out more quickly, but I had not seen that for Ultegra.

Speaking of chains, I got some KMC x10.93s and put one on.

Wow, that removable link is a bear to undo compared to the Wippermanns I had previously used. I'm almost of the mind to reuse my Wippermann links on the new chain, but that might not be a good idea.

Ultegra cassette probably is, yes. The massive price gap between DA and Ultegra is not justifiable.

Don't re use the Wipperman link. It won't interface properly with the KMC.

I'm going on a camping tour in two weeks with a bunch of hipsters... I can't decide if I want to take my ss mtb or my friend has offered to let me use his Soma Saga touring bike. I'd have to buy racks and panniers for my mtb, but not with the Soma. I plan on buying at least a rear rack for the ss, anyways.

With my purchasing of new White Industries mtb hubs next week and a new fork after, I think taking his bike would be better. Only reason I want to take the ss is because of reliability and ease of maintenance. It also didn't cost me squat, but is still worth more than any of the hipster bikes... combined.

They're retarded. Most parents aren't willing to spend the money on a good bike with working brakes or willing to have brakes properly installed. Sad.

I have fixed a number of bikes for the kids on my street. Amazes me their parents won't do it.

It's fantastic. Wish I could get out to Scott County Park and just do laps all day. 11 mile laps that are really bearable. Never much climbing. I did 4 laps there back in June and I felt like I could have done 10. Too bad my car is junk.

Camping trip went well. My bike weighed in well over 120lbs after it was fully loaded. Never walked up a hill. Surprisingly easy to hand and fast. Love the Soma Saga and touring. Think I'll get myself a Surly Ogre this winter.

The big question - did you get the girl?
