I stopped having faith in the USMNT a long time ago. I cheer for them, I just never expect them to win anything.
I've basically become an England fan myself. And take into account that I'm a big homer for America in general.
If you wanted to root for another team because you don't expect America to win, why on earth would you root for England?
It would be like if a Lions fan didn't think Detroit was a super bowl contender so he started rooting for the Browns instead.
We are yet to have our A team playing together. Klinnsman has been playing a lot of players just to give them a look, IMO.
I'd bet America will win a World Cup before England will.First off, the Lions will win a super bowl before the Browns will, but I understand what you were trying to say.
You're completely missing the point. England has no chance to win anything of significance anytime in the near future. And actually it's not the same at all. There is a few thousand miles separating the countries. I respect teams like Holland, Germany, Spain, etc. but I do not root for them because I don't want to. I enjoy watching good quality football and they all provide it, but I'm still not cheering for them. Just lots of goals.
Being a MU fan, and a EPL fan in general is what brought me to cheering for England. Why wouldn't I cheer for them. They look like us, and speak basically the same language. Who should I cheer for, Japan?
I cheer for the teams that I like, simply put. I also like rooting for Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and Ghana, but no way in hell I'm going to start pulling for them against the US or England.
I grew up in South Florida, so based on your logic I should be a Hurricane fan. Or Gator. Or Seminole. Maybe even FAU Owls bc geographically they were the closest. All my family bleeds Orange and White, so I was raised to bleed Orange and White.
We've rarely seen our entire first team at full strength. Bob Bradley stuck to his favorites way too often. Our first team, if there even is such a thing anymore with the US, is garbage. A few good players, but the team is garbage.
You better start cheering for a country that doesn't speak English, IMO.

And just for the record, I do have teams that I like to watch outside the US. Love watching the Germans.
I honestly had no idea you were talking about winning "something". I thought you were going back to colonial days or something twisted like that...
And if you truly believe that the US will win the world cup before England wins it again (don't care if it was 1966 they still won), you either have no soccer credibility, or more likely are simply blinded by your loyalty to the USA.
Sorry, but you're out of your fu***** mind to think the US will win the copa mundial before England, let alone ever.
If it does happen (which it will not), and Volnation is still up and running, I'm still posting, the internet still exists, and mankind hasn't been killed off or turned into zombies by some retrovirus, consider me banned.
Remind me who finished first in the group in 2010? Who almost won the last Confederations Cup? Hell, America and England finished in the same spot at Euro 2008.
USA soccer has steadily been on the rise. England is no longer a major threat to win anything. Everyone outside English fans and media has realized this.
1. You would think a country that thinks so highly of its soccer team would have found a competent keeper by 2010.We sure scored a good goal against England in that game. Dempsey's shot was one of the most venomous strikes I've seen in years.
I guess England was just too cool to get a spot at Euro 2008.The reason we try hard in a Confed. Cup type tourney is because we don't have something cool like the Euro to compete in between World Cups.
There has been a noticeable increase in talent. Once it is properly developed, America will make big strides. You are right though, we almost won the Confederations Cup. We also almost won the Gold Cup this summer. On the rise? Both times we gave up a 2 goal lead, and got embarrassed. Those games against Brazil, and Mexico, respectively, were not close. Yes, ok, Brazil is Brazil and will most likely always be a soccer powerhouse. But now we can't even play in the next Confederations Cup since we lost to Mexico, so technically we're on the decline.
Seems to me like you're just basing everything off of three world cups.USA soccer has been on the rise in the sense of MLS expansion and overall quality, along with a steady increase in American fans watching and following MLS and soccer in general. I would not say that the US has been on a steady rise in terms of the National Team, because they have not. See above. Check the record books if you think otherwise. I also credit ESPN with getting soccer more respected in America.
I think America will be a legitimate world cup contender by the next time they host the world cup.I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. I hope you prove me wrong, and the US wins the next World Cup, or anything of significance in the near future for that matter. Even just some good wins. I think Klinsmann is most definitely a step in the right direction, I just believe we will never close the gap.

2. The USA stopped pressuring and played for a tie after the goal. If they hadn't scored, they would have had a good chance to later.
3. It doesn't really matter, anyways. America finished on top of the group. England had their chances to finish ahead, but just weren't good enough.

I agree with you about the keeper situation, and that is it (show me a competent English keeper in the EPL? Joe Hart maybe?). Maybe the point about when the US hosts another World Cup. Who knows when that will be, the only thing going for us is the rule against hosting on the same continent back to back. But an oil nation getting it before us? with 110+ temps during the summer? Doesn't bode well for us IMO, even though I'd love for us to host a WC, because it would make it easier for me to go to. And nobody got paid off, but if they did, we should have paid more.
And no, I don't think we were going for a tie, we were going for a win. We are worse off now than we were a year ago (or three), minus the manager. Show me that talent now, not in 5 years, because that means its not talent, it means its learned. Comparison? How about Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, and Tom Cleverley (did pretty well in U21... Their U21 is better than our starting 11). Young and talented, and already proving it on an international level. We have nobody that comes close, and our biggest weakness is our back line.
England has been showing out recently, maybe you should pay more attention. 5-1-2 in the past year.
P.S. Tim Howard SUCKS at the international level. He gives up more howlers than Green does, and Green is garbage too, not to mention relegated now as well.
P.S.S. Once again I hope you prove me wrong and we are legitimate contender the next time we play in the world cup, period. I'll even break out my American flag cape and bandana for the occasion.
Agreed about Chandler.I was just kidding although it has been a disappointing start to klinnsman's regime. I hope the rumors about Chandler aren't true.
On a bright note, I look forward to United continuing their great PL form on Sunday.
