The Association Football Thread

AVB said after the game that Chelsea were clearly "up to the level of the champions". I'd love to know what game he was watching, it sounds more competitive than the one I saw.

There is no way Chelsea beats United this year when both are at full strength. They are in a completely different class.

I still think that if United came up against the big two in Europe, they would get thrashed.

At OT mayyybe. Ozil would pick apart Man U's D

Just for comparison's sake. Madrid played an open, attacking game once against Barca last year. They lost 5-0. Man U played the same way, lost 3-1.
United has gotten significantly better
since that game, and is tearing through
the Premiere League. Madrid added
Coentrao.

But yeah let's assume the perpetually
underperforming Ozil would "pick apart" United.

he had 11 goals and 27 assists in his debut campaign last season, despite the fact that he came off the pitch to be substituted in most of the games he started.

he has 2 assists in 3 games started so far this year in la liga...

exactly how is that "under performing?"

La Liga numbers are always inflated due to the terrible competition. Look up his record in the Champions League or games played against Barcelona. Not as pretty is it? He disappears when they really need him.

Madrid was a completely different team at the end of the season than the team that lost 5-0. The two legs in the CL were 2-0 and 1-1.
