My childhood self says Skip was a god among men in the booth.

I grew up with Skip in the 80s, when the team was always 25 games out by August. He had an impeccable sense of when to do straight baseball and when to shift into entertainment mode. He and Pete and Ernie kept me watching/listening to thousands more meaningless innings than I otherwise would've.

Way back long ago, I was an IT guy working at a big company. Reasonably attractive but mostly dumb girl was worried about Y2K and the computer problems everyone was worried about. She kept wanting to know what the worst case scenario was. "The absolute worst case scenario?" I asked. "Yes. The very worst thing that could happen."

So I sat down and talked for about 15 minutes about a post-apocalyptic society in which electricity no longer existed, millions starved because food could no longer be transported for long distances, and women were commodities to be traded, maybe for a bottle of Jack Daniels. Not sure I've ever seen anybody's eyes so big after that.

No worries. He's archived the entire 1995 season, will fire it up first week of April every year. Come first Saturday in September....it's football time in Tennessee! '98 style!
