The Atlanta Braves Thread (Javy Lopez Edition)

True, I would say most of the games I have been to have a much larger percentage of opposing teams fans than any other games I've gone too

Great crowds are only possible when it's a new team, a bandwagon situation, or there's enough history that the team is entrenched in people's families' lives. The third situation is the critical one. It's why baseball crowds are so much better in the north; it's why college football crowds are so great in the south, even though pro support is always iffy. The Braves are just now getting to that point, because only now are the kids of all the people who moved down here in the 80s grown up with a lifetime of rooting for that team. The Nats don't have any of it this year.

True.

Plus the braves got a Waffle House which instantly gives you a better crowd

Watching Netflix mind my own business and the Internet cuts out. I show full connection on all devices but nothing works

That was deep and majestic like The Grand Canyon.

I can't remember if I've ever heard an opposing player say anything like that about the Atlanta fans, except maybe in the bandwagon years of 91 and 92. I really do think we might be starting to turn the corner down here.

I think it helps that this team, by and large, is young and hasn't won anything. It was very nice all those years of expecting to win the division, but at the same time it was frustrating as hell knowing that the postseason collapse was imminent.

This team has a shot at winning it all. I like the way they compete against the other division leaders. I'll feel much better about their chances when/if they can lock up home field.

With all due respect, he would still be a disgrace as a man. Apologies do not remove actions.

Indeed. Armstrong is still a disgrace and he heaped up the belated, halfassed, worthless apologies.

I can squint my eyes and sort of see why Braun might have felt like he was in a "fight for his life," as Alex Rodriguez put it, and while backed up against a wall, small fry like Dino Laurenzi Jr. felt like just collateral damage. But if there is even a sliver of core decency at all to Braun, then he'll apologize publicly to the guy.

Mostly decent but weak people make selfish decisions under duress all the time. But when the jig's up they usually fall over backwards to make amends, because they know they did wrong and they're embarrassed about it. We'll see about Braun.
