The bad thing about this is he runs a "big 12" or "non SEC" type of offense, that is not what we need. We need a balanced offense with a great Defense if we want to compete in the SEC. Im afraid with Jones we will be just like last years team, score points but give up a whole lot more then we score. I hope I am wrong but the SEC is a conference that you need to be able to run at will and play great D! Look at the teams that are successful? Hell look at the NC this year. Bama- Runs the ball great and has the Best Defense in the nation... ND- Runs the ball and plays great D! I hope this works out but all I see is we will be in the same position in 3 years..... looking for a new coach and buying out yet another staff. With that I will still support Butch and I really hope he proves me wrong because you have no idea how bad I want to see my VOLS win. Actually you do, I can speak for all of us, WE JUST WANT TO WIN! So good luck Butch I really hope you turn this ship in the right direction, I just don't think the scheme he brings fits the SEC, that's just my opinion. But GO VOLS! Here is to hopefully a much better year!:hi:

Sit around and think about it some more. Then make another thread talking about more negativity.

Needless to say, spring practice is going to be interesting.

He said he would adapt his offense to the players at hand, i guess we will see.

It's already been discussed in another thread, but Cincinnati ran it around 60% of the time last season. They run it out of the shotgun, sure, but it's still running the ball. Think an Urban Meyer style offense, they are from the same coaching tree after all.

Texas A&M says HI....Also Auburn from 2010 says hey as well

Ok well Auburn had one of the best players to ever play college ball... Cam Newton. Tex. A&M has the first freshman to ever win the heisman (I think he will win it), but also A&M plays pretty good Defense.

Out of shotgun, that crap won't work against the ELITE in the SEC

If it wins games, it fits. He actually sounds like a coach. Refreshing...

It did for Florida. The part of your post that I do agree with is that defense is going to be crucial. That's more important than anything we do on the offensive side of the ball IMO.

If he hires a decent LB and DB coach, keeps Pittman and Graham (and why in the world wouldn't he if he compares this year to last???) - we'll be fine.

If Bray, Hunter, et. al stay....I sincerely hope we don't have any off-season ego crap that really distracted this team like Da'Idiot did last year. A new coach and a new (or modified) system doesn't need that.

how about you let him hire a DC first. Im just saying. A man like Coach Jones, to get to where he is today, probably understands the need for a strong D in the SEC alot more than you do.

Again, Cincinnati did NOT have a bad running game, at all, under Jones.

And just for the record, running a fast-paced, up-tempo offense doesn't mean your defense will be bad. Not sure where this myth got started, but it's false.

His offense was pretty physical last year in Knoxville. He runs a spread, but their O-line and backs were tough even the QB.

I don't care if they play in orange tu-tu's as long as they WIN. This SEC style football stuff is garbage. A&M just beat Bama with a Pro Style offense..

Comeon man, its about players, coaching, and the x's and o's.

You did no research at all yes he runs a spread offense but he has an aggressive running game look at the stats please. That is why he likes a DUAL THREAT QB. His offense is far from a pass happy attack.

You all are nitpicking a guy who went 10-2 the last two years. I think we would take that, 9-3, 8-4 over what we have had. Winners win and this guy strikes me as a winner!

Name one team that runs an up tempo Offense that has a good Defense?

Everything works if you've got good players. If we keep signing two-star guys who are getting recruiting by Purdue and Kentucky, then we're screwed.

I don't care if he runs the Wishbone formation every down, as long as the man can win some damn SEC games!!!
